3 Goodgymmers in Sharrow promoting Sharrow Festival

Sheffield Report written by Annie Anthony Mays

It was a wet and windy morning but 3 of us managed to distribute the flyers through Sharrow area concentrating Residential areas at Grange Road, Grange Crescent Road and surrounding areas. Yoseph finds a new system of putting the flyers through the doors and succeeded using a Eooden spoon to lift letter boxes and then push the flyers through. Well fone Team!

We fell in love with the COMMON people!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

The cold is here!!!

But we didn't let it stop us. As the mercury went down in Sheffield town we still gathered at The Showroom and headed a short way around the corner to meet with Jess and the gang at Common Thread to help with some mass clothe sorting.

The system that is now known is to grab a big blue IKEA bag which contains unsorted clothes and check for quality and stains and if good then go on to catagorize from there and finally bag up, date and label and send back down in the lift.

This way when it comes to the next clothes swap, items have already been sorted and are good to be put out onto the rails for people to go through and select at their leisure.

As ever the Common Thread people were so welcoming with snacks on the table and the offer a warm drinks!

We love coming to Common Thread and will be back once more before Christmas so get yourselves signed up for the next one!

Happy running! :)

Soiling ourselves in a good way!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

On a dark and drizzly Sheffield Mon eve we all headed uphill to meet FANTASTIC FRAN who does such a good job helping to keep a lovely area of green space in Heeley in good order and use make it a good place for the community.

The space hosts benches for people to enjoy, various flowers and trees and even some raised beds.

This time around we helped Fran with some litter picking, clearing of the edges of the space that had become overgrown with weeds, tidying up the compost corner and refilling a raised bed with soil.

After even a short spell, the space was looking clearer and much more user friendly.

The photos hardly do it justice, but believe us it looks so much better after our efforts.

Until next time, happy running! :)

Leaf it out!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

John and Liz, local 'Walk Wheel Cycle Trust' (the organisation previously known as 'Sustrans' - more details below) volunteers kindly met us on a dark, drizzly evening with a car full of tools. With a few bright lights in position, after a good uphill run for some, we were soon clearing the leaves, mud and ivy off the cycle path to help keep the path clear and help prevent people skidding. A few walkers and a bike came through so nice to see the path is used. We had a good catchup and didn't want to leave(s) but we managed to make an impact on the path.

We learnt that...

The active travel charity Sustrans has officially changed its name to the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. The name change was implemented after a year of research to create a clearer and more accessible brand that immediately explains the charity's purpose. Along with the new name and branding, the organisation also launched a new five-year strategy focused on building and improving communities for walking, wheeling, and cycling. With a mission to deliver more joy per journey, more peace per pedal, more smiles per mile.

We look forward to continuing to work with The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust to contribute to improving our local communities to walk, wheel and cycle!
