Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Conroy
Yesterday we celebrated Andy's 50th Good Deeds with a run to one of our favorite task providers, friends of Park Hill.
Yesterday we were tasked with planting as many bulbs as possible in an area of the park that wasn't receiving as much loved as other areas despite it being one really close to one of the main entrance/exit of the park.
Who knew planting bulbs would have been so entertaining, you had Andy walking around distributing chocolates to the group as they worked. Some members creating patterns which we can't wait to go back and see the results next spring.
As if Andy distributing chocolates was not enough Josie stopped us for a tea break where she as always have an array of selections of teas coffee and biscuits, always on hand for us as she is a firm believer in ensuring we are fed and hydrated after all the hard work we do.
As usual the group had a great evening together and there were so many innocent comments which I will not put here however if you imagine digging holes and posing for photos I am sure you would be able to guess some of them.
We also had the pleasure of taking along with us one of the 15, Big Community Relay batons along with us.
What is that you ask? Starting at Woodhouse Moor parkrun in Leeds The Big Community Relay have sent 15 gold Leeds Building Society batons into the parkrun community. Each of the batons are be fitted with a unique GPS location transmitter, allowing parkrunners to keep track of the batons as they travel across the UK. Over the following weeks they’ll be encouraging parkrunners to pass these batons to different locations across the UK (and beyond!).
The aim? They want to encourage people to walk, jog, run and volunteer together to demonstrate the power of what it means to be a part of the community. They will share participants’ pictures and stories throughout The Big Community Relay. Finally they’ll also report back each week on the different locations and how far the batons have travelled across the UK.
Obviously it was only fitting that our most travelled female park runner record holder received one for her travells, which she had to share with her GoodGym family.
Next week we are heading over to the Peppermint Center to assist Pam with the raised beds sign up here, the group will be taken by Ellie please come and give her your support her sessions are way better than mine and is always a hit amongst attendees.
On Sunday there is a community mission at Lloyd Park Junior Parkrun why not go along and support the young ones, there are a few suggestions being talked about after the mission is over, a short run, brunch or why not do both. Sign up here
