Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Amy L (she/her)
A huge thank you to Wendy Rumble for guest coaching for us this bank holiday Monday evening, and a warm welcome to Gillian, Vanessa and Victoria, who joined us for the first time. Great to meet you all!
No arm in a few crisp puns now is there?
This evening's session was all about arm drive - learning how to move our arms in the optimum way to enable us to run with more efficiency, speed and ease. The ideal hand position is forefinger and thumb lightly touching as if holding a crisp, and we even had Pringles to practice with! It was really Original. Not that Walkers aren't welcome at GoodGym of course...
The weather was feeling a bit crisp, but we soon warmed up with a lap of the Braywick running track and some dynamic stretches. Wendy had some great arm drills up her sleeves for us including running with no arms, wacky arms, one arm, and throwing pretend rugby balls - all giving us a flavour for how our arms can help (or hinder) us when we run.
Ready to reach for our (Prin)goals, we then practiced our arm drive with three intervals on the track. Everyone worked hard and we celebrated not cracking a single crisp on the run by snacking on them.
Then it was time to packet up at the track and head for the hills. We jogged to the Braywick Nature reserve, where Wendy cheerfully informed us we would be tackling the parkrun hill and a loop round the pond repeatedly for 7 minutes. Again, everyone worked hard, rising to the challenge with smiles and enthusiasm. Chip chip hooray!
