Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by John Shirley
Today we returned to one of our regular tasks - helping to keep Thornhill Square Gardens looking lovely. The locals meet for gardening on the first Saturday of every month and can always do with some help.
Martina, recently moved to London, wasted no time signing up for her first GoodGym mission. She was pleased she’d made the effort to come out for the task and was quick to make new friends. Tom is also feeling his way into GoodGym, but planned to visit further tasks the same day. John and Emily both overslept but still managed to drag their weary bodies to the task. Paul ran to the task from further-North London.
The tasks involved weeding grass from flower beds, pruning rosemary bushes and digging up crocuses for re-planting, as well as repairing and replenishing a natural fence.
After two hours in the sunshine, we variously disappeared to other tasks, to meet friends, or just headed home, satisfied with a job well done. But we’ll be back.
'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
