Ain’t no threat of rain putting off tonight’s do-gooders! (Though the lure of baked goods might have tempted some out…)

We had a lovely bunch tonight, including many a friendly face and a few new ones! Shout out to Chris, Jen, Hannah and Alice for joining their first Lambeth group run! You are so welcome 👍👍

Tonight’s task was at the awesome (and slightly terrifying in such dark conditions - see ghostly pic) Brixton Windmill where we met Jean who gave us a few tasks to be cracking on with:

🌱 Raking up the mown grass for the compost heap

🔪 (closest relevant emoji?) Edging the path to make it look nice

✂️ Trimming back the hedges on the outside fence and putting the branches in a sack

Fake it till you rake it

Although the clumps of grass were a struggle to find and our lights didn’t quite light up the path as desired (according to Chris), in 30 minutes we were done. And we had 2 bags of grass and branches to show for it as well as a neatly edged pathway.

Great work gang! 💥

Cookies and crème de la crème

We then had a brisk run down the hill back to Papa’s. After a quick stretch, Jen brought out the goodies;

Chocolate chip cookies with a dash of salt. A phenomenal start to our Bake-Off Sweet-stakes!!

See you next week for sanding and painting benches at Hillside Gardens and (fingers-crossed) round 2 of bakes! 🍰

Brixton Windmill
A little bit of history in central Brixton!

The Friends of Windmill Gardens (FoWG) were formed in 2003 with three aims: * to get the Grade II listed Brixton Windmill restored and opened for public visits – in 2002 it had been put on English Heritage's buildings at risk register; * to make Windmill Gardens park a more welcoming space for local people; * to have a new education centre at the windmill. Windmill Gardens gained a Green Flag Community Award in 2015 and we have just been judged again so our fingers are crossed that we will retain the award for the next two years.
