This week's group run took us back to Holyport FC for some strimming and trimming. Having welcomed everyone and warmed up at Coop, we walked and ran via Sandringham Road, which conveniently loops round to form a lovely 'track' for some interval work.
At the track pairs of runners and walkers set off in opposite directions and when they met on the other side of the loop they greeted each other with a Hello, Jó napot, Buna ziua or Namaste....thanks for the bonus language lesson Georgeta and Anita! Then they did 10 squats together before turning heel and legging it back to the start. It was brilliant to see the runners really pushing themselves on the way back, and I love how this exercise allows us all to work at our own fitness level but to stay together and be sociable.
We did 2 rounds at the 'track' and then jogged on to Holyport FC, where we were welcomed by task owners Jason, Rich, and Jay. They introduced us to their impressive array of grass strimming and hedge trimming tools and professional barber Jason demonstrated to me, Amy and Rhi how to give the hedge a short back and sides. Meanwhile Sheila, Jordan, Anita, Georgeta, Rachel and Jen were pitching in to give the perimeter grass a buzz cut. We had a super upper body workout and made great progress on the task. Club volunteer Jason estimated that we saved him about 3 days of work.
We then squeezed in a super quick team relay/obstacle course/multi-sports session using a couple of the club's balls. And donut imagine the fun ended there! Rich kindly bought a huge tray of donuts, which we made light work of - thank you!
It was an ex-strimmer-ly fun evening. Well done team!
