Spring has sprung and Sheffield had a huge turnout last night with 32 fantastic, fabulous runners coming out to play in the now ever increasing light of the evening to help Heeley Development Trust with the upkeep of Heeley People's Park!

A big welcome to 2 new runners to the @GGSHEFF team;

Give em a cheers and hit that support button!

Also a big thanks to DASHING DAMIEN who was visiting from @GGBARNET, you're welcome anytime my man!

So after a brief brief and with SENSATIONAL STEVE as trusty back marker we set off toward our task for the evening.

On arrival at the Park we had time for a great group photo around the parks sign asking for HELP which we were there to provide in spades, with forks...

FANTASTIC FRANK met us at the Crows Nest and gave us a brief on the nights tasks which involved 2 groups:

  1. TEAM SCORE, SPREAD SEED & AIRATE
  2. TEAM HIP HOP, LOP & CHOP

Once split the teams got straight to it, kicking grass, laying new seed in bare areas and cutting back the overgrown bush encroaching on the pavement surrounding the path. The leftovers were gathered up into tonne bags and squashed down using some great stamping teamwork from SUPER SERGIU & AMAZING ANDREA!

The remnants and offcuts were skillfully brushed away using sheer ingenuity by TREMENDOUS TOM HARMAN who made a makeshift brush when one was not available, I like your moves Tom! When bush comes to shrub @GGSHEFF can really make a huge impact in the short time we have at tasks and we even had the locals stopping, thanking and asking what is this and how do I get involved!

We downed tools and heard thanks from the team at Heeley People's Park before heading to the parks bouldering wall for a rock around the rock circuit session which included:

  • Press Up's
  • Tri Dip's
  • Wall Sits
  • Burpees
  • Lunges
  • Goblet Squats
  • Inch Worms
  • Leg Raises
  • Sumo squats
  • Tuck Jumps
  • Squat Punches
  • Crab toe touches
  • Squat 180's
  • Star Jumps
  • Sit Up's
  • Squats
  • Split Lunges
  • Planks
  • Divebomb push ups
  • V-Up's
  • Glute Bridge's
  • Squat Jumps
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Flutter Kicks
  • Clock Lunges
  • Curty's Lunges

Aaaaand RELAX.

After saying goodbye to a few runners leaving us from the task location we headed for home and stretched off outside the students union making best use of the big concrete balls before heading in for liquid refreshment & catching up with BRILLIANT BASH who had paid us a visit from Leeds.

Until next time, happy running.

:)

"Making Heeley a better place to be. We want Heeley to be a successful, vibrant and inclusive community; a good place to live, to work, to do business and to visit."

Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
