Report written by Bournemouth runner
Despite some very miserable weather we had 11 brave souls turn up eager for a run and to do some good in Bournemouth and visit a new task....the Church and graveyard that is Mary Shelley's resting place, the famous novelist who wrote Frankenstein!
It looked like it might stop....or maybe it was just wishful thinking on all our parts! It was a steady drizzle and it didn't ease off....so out came all our rain gear!
Chris and Becca came to their first ever group run with us and were not deterred by the weather....so many other first timers I'm sure thought.....hmmmm next week may be a better task to start on. Well done for coming along guy, getting stuck in on a pretty miserable task and being up for a laugh too! We hope to see you again soon!
Andrew surprised us with a visit and we surprised him with a change of task! Always double check the website before setting off guys, especially if you haven't signed up as you won't get an update unless you have. I'm sure you have no regrets Andrew!? Right????
Abi was able to join us again but didn't bring her super stealthy waterproof bottoms....with Chris as back marker and the gang raring to go we set off through the gardens to take cover amongst the trees and make the run a little longer as the location of the task was not very far from our meeting point. 4.5km later...
.....we reached St Peter's Church, Jane had been working outside for a while and met us by the main entrance with lots of tool to help us with our task of cleaning the church surroundings. We had leaf claws...or merman tails....brooms, bags, gloves and brushes. All the kit we needed to do an amazing job.
Off we split into groups and soon forgot about the weather. Filling black bin bags with leaves, rubbish, make up kits, socks,
a picnic bench
metal covers and a sooooooooooooooooo many cigarette butts!! Unreal! Thank God....I mean thank goodness we had gloves!!!!!
After filling up 2-3 bags and getting progressively colder and wetter we decided there was not much more to do, we said our good byes to Jane, who was super grateful and invited us back to help clean the inside of the church next time! Wohoo!
Great to help a new community group that really needs our help, even more rewarding!
Well done everyone! Thank you for braving the weather....Amber hope you have a great holiday and don't get sick....good karma should be on your side! Especially if you take your new GoodGym t-shirt with you!!!!
Next week we are doing a beach clean and combining it with a social.....so do a sunshine dance every day until Wednesday!
Have a great end to the week!!!
