Today I joined up with other volunteers at the Borough Food Collective held at St. George the Martyr Church in Borough.

I met up with Kirsty who oversaw the volunteers. I first was ask to check on the fruit and vegetables to make sure they were still suitable to be sold. Any items passed their sell-by date or that appeared to be not edible were disposed in the food waste. We also re-stocked items such as mayonnaise, organic beans and tinned barley.

We then waited for the delivery of new items such as mineral water, packets of rice and protein drinks. All of this was for the supermarket which the food-cooperative runs every Thursday. We managed to complete the task within two hours.

Borough Food Cooperative

The Borough Food Cooperative opened in October 2020. With help from organisations like FareShare, the Borough Food Cooperative acts as a subsidized supermarket, offering members to stop in and pick up £15-£20 worth of groceries for £4.50. The Cooperative is open during lockdown to provide essential supplies to local households
