GoodGym Southwark and Monday nights never usually mixed in the past, but seven sturdy GoodGymers were up for this community task.

Rushing from Thorlands, Sam brought along a wheelbarrow as requested by Rose. Already on site and taking down the polytunnel was Anna, Frances, Jen, Lindy and Paulin. Laura went on an adventure around Denmark Hill, but eventually found the spot (yes, it's partly due to my directions....).

The polytunnel was taken down in no time and the real task at hand began. Armed with kids shovels, a fork and couple of tarps and a wheelbarrow, we proceeded to start a system of moving the woodchip mulch from the road to the compost heap. It was a HIIT session with the added wetness and warmth of the woodchip seeping through our gardening gloves.

Since Sam didn't want to stop the Jubilee party, he put on the "Best of British" tunes to keep everyone motivated and working to the beat of the tunes. Frances thought the pile of woodchip wasn't shrinking but Sam knew it could be done. 30 minutes to go, 20 minutes to go, 15 minutes to go....the pile kept on getting smaller and smaller. Eventually, time caught up to us and there was literally two more tarp trips to do. We stayed for another five minutes to finish the job and get a group photo, but at least, WE GOT THE JOB DONE!

Thank You to all the GG-ers

A personal thanks from me to all those who came out tonight! Rose couldn't have done it without us (in such a short time). You really pushed yourselves to the max for a good hour and I am sure there's some achy muscles in places, but it wouldn't be a workout if there wasn't.

Thank You Rose

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rose for reaching out and it's a shame the polytunnel that we helped put up on my birthday has seen its days. Still where there are challenges, there are opportunities. I look forward to getting more involved.
