AJ attended at We Don’t Waste in Denver and was soon put to task with fellow volunteer Julie with sorting and organising through a huge box of random items, from cereal boxes to packs of rice to, erm, medical suppositories!! Next up was assisting representatives from various agencies / charities who collect food for their local communities. Our car loading / packing Jenga skills were put to the test but all items were soon successfully sent off with car boots packed to the car roofs. A good session. 👏🏻

The impending loss of SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps) due to the US Government shutdown, means that many States are now figuring out how to feed millions of people which has led to a huge increase in the daily use of foodbanks. For example, today, AJ attended at Denver’s Metro Caring’s Foodbank, which ran very low on bread, milk and eggs. Hopefully the Government shutdown will end soon.

AJ attended at Denver’s We Don’t Waste and after a coffee and a chat with the staff (mostly about GG! 🙃) she was soon put to task unpacking up a huge box of peanut butter jars onto a palette. AJ also assisted regular representatives of various agencies / charities who come to collect items for distribution in their local communities. All went well.

First timer, AJ joined a large group of volunteers to re-stock a variety dry goods and drinks at the daily-run Metro Caring FB in Denver. AJ was paired up with Cara (from Seattle) who was part of a fact finding team of volunteers who had come from all over the USA to observe the great work done at Metro Caring.

AJ attended at the famous Red Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado to volunteer at a 5k on behalf of the American Lung 🫁 Association. It was a pre-dawn and rather chilly start at the registration / bib pick up desk but once the sun appeared things warmed up quickly. The event was very well organised and had about 1500 participants.
