Report written by Tara Shanahan
What a lovely evening to get fit whilst doing good! Summer was still in the air after a sweltering bank holiday and the chat on the run was mostly about how we enjoyed the heatwave over the Easter weekend.
After a shortish run we arrived at Morley Court in Wellington Road where we were met by regular task provider Cllr David, fresh from celebrating a significant birthday over the weekend, where he unfortunately sustained a knee injury pogoing to Anarchy in the UK!! Way to go Cllr David, we wish you a speedy recovery!!
Cllr David took two pairs of runners (Tabitha & Lucy and David & Katie) off to apply the top coat of paint to graffiti in a couple of locations we covered up last week. On returning to the group Katie looked like a seasoned Goodgymmer as her brand new GG t-shirt is now suitably paint spattered after just one outing!
Back at Morley Court residents John & Madeleine set us to work on pulling up enormous amounts of ivy that has completely taken over the beds edging the communal garden. Using a variety of tools including rakes, secateurs & loppers we lopped, chopped, tugged & pulled that ivy, it was a right battle to get it clear. Pulling is a great workout for the upper back muscles which are so important for a good posture in life and in running so this was a great physical task for us.The long term plan is to clear the beds and plant them with something a bit more colourful, apparently there is a little girl who lives in the block who is already a keen gardener and would like a bit more space to express her green fingers.
Just time for a partner workout on the Level using our partners as resistance, support and motivation to complete a variety of exercises to double tick the getting fit box. See you all next week, happy running!
Cllr David Gibson is well on board with Goodgym and comes up with various tasks around the ward to keep us busy & useful.
