Following a busy stint in Fletcher Moss, there was work to do with Ardwick Climate Action on their monthly Saturday volunteers session.

Upon arrival, I dived straight into helping with litter picking in some of their areas near Greek Street and their green spaces, finding a range of takeaway litter, laughing gas canisters, and pink lacy underwear. In all, we collected 11 bags of litter that could be reported to Keep MCR Tidy for collection early next week.

Our next task was to plant some grasses and plants near Lockton Close to add to the bulbs that were starting to come out. With Gordon, I was also tasked with adding a metal boundary to one of the paths to their signposts with mixed results given the small stones and underlying matting.

After an hour or so of work, we felt pleased with the work accomplished and said our goodbyes.

Their next session is on Sat 29th March with more path renovation and likely litter picking (it never ends...)

We Believe Change Starts With Community

Ardwick Climate Actions' mission is to protect our local environment through grassroots advocacy that engages the local community. Our work encompasses the renewing of green spaces, monitoring pollution levels, climate advocacy through community engagement. Ardwick is one of the most deprived areas in Manchester, and much work is needed to reengage and sensitise the community back to nature and the climate crisis that affects all its residents.
