Woking Environment Action (WEAct) are a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. We welcome new members and encourage local people to join so we can keep in touch with you about our projects and events, and provide you with ideas and inspiration for actions that you can take to help the environment.

We will run from Woking Leisure Centre to the task at Mayford Meadows. If you want to meet us there please let us know. Task is at What 3 Words, ///hugs.fairly.worry , by the bridge and entrance to Mayford Meadows on B380 Guildford Road near the Drumming Snipe pub.

We will be removing Himalayan Balsam from the streamside footpath to reduce the amount of seeds produced and make the footpath a better space for people and native plants.

There are a lot of stinging nettles amongst the balsam so bring gardening gloves and wear a long sleeve top, full length leggings and a cap would help to keep them out of your face. Also recommend having antihistamine cream handy in case you get stung.

How are you getting there?

Would it help if I brought some gardening tools? (loppers, secateurs etc)

Hi Richard, we were able to pull the balsam out by hand but there are nettles growing alongside that loppers or shears could be handy for, if you want to bring your own
