What a wonderful evening!

Thursday 4th July

Written by Jonathan (he/him)

A truly lovely time helping out at the Age UK summer party!

Pleasure to meet Joyce for the first time, hope to see you again soon at a Hammersmith task! (but next time maybe don't sign us all up for table service!)

Thanks to John and Sarah again for organising and especially big shout out to Johnny as he was celebrated for his time with Age UK as well!

Sleighing at the party!

Thursday 7th December 2023

Written by Jonathan (he/him)

Five goodgymmers came together again (thanks to Biscuits organisation) to support and celebrate the hard work of all of the Age UK volunteers in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Our thanks always for the delicious scran that is put on, this time a wonderful veg lasagne or chicken curry to tuck into!

Not only did we serve the food but we helped with the tidy up afterwards, putting away tables and cleaning down the surfaces.

A key to this mission is always to bring tupperware, and we came away with all the second helpings we need for lunch the next day!

At a fancy party, don't forget a jacket (potato)!

Thursday 6th July 2023

Written by Jonathan (he/him)

Back again with Age UK H&F, we helped cater the event for all the wonderful volunteers and staff who give up so much throughout the year to provide support for others.

As always, we also got to sample to delicious grub that had been served up, from chicken to three bean stew, with a delicious jacket potato to go alongside with some salad! For dessert, a delicious fruit salad.

With speeches done and food consumed, we helped with the packdown of the event, washing up trays and pots and putting away tables.

Whilst we were frittering away, our very own Biscuits secured a spot in the London Marathon 2024. Congratulations Biscuits!

Chilli con barney!

Thursday 8th December 2022

Written by Jonathan (he/him)

Six goodgymmers helped out at the Age UK Christmas Party, celebrating the hard work of volunteers supporting the vulnerable in society.

Can't complain either as we got fed with some lovely chilli con carne (or baked aubergine for the vegetarians) and some cheese and crackers for afterwards.

Overall a lovely event and one we always like to help out at!

Making a meal of it!

Wednesday 8th June 2022

Written by Jonathan (he/him)

A wonderful evening celebrating the volunteers of Age UK H&F, and a great shoutout to Biscuits for his ongoing support to a wonderful organisation.

Helping to serve the food and drink for the night, we helped the event go off without a hitch, with all four runners getting equal opportunities serving drink, food and doing the dreaded washing up!

Oh I think that I found myself a chair-leader 🪑

Monday 20th September 2021

7 H&F goodgymers met at Age UK H&F this evening to lend a hand tidying their garden up before a garden party for their key stakeholders later in the week. Special shoutout to Divy, who joined us today for his first ever goodgym task - welcome! The group were led by Biscuits, who explained the two main focuses; firstly to weed the paved area to make it look nice and tidy, and secondly to wash down the white plastic tables and chairs which had been exposed to the elements over the course of the British summer. With an interesting array of tools (including some screwdrivers, and even some sticks!) half of the group set to work on the weeds whilst the others donned rubber gloves and began washing down the chairs.

In no time at all the weeds had been removed from between the patio flags, which in part was powered by the Heroes chocolates that Biscuits was kindly handing around to us all! Biscuits began sweeping the weeds together and removing them from the patio with a dustpan, which meant that the rest of the team could focus their attention on the tables and chairs. Andrew, Katie and Cookie eyed up one particularly grubby looking table, making sure that I captured a before photo displaying all its filth before they set to work - "this will make a great before and after photo Beth!" - and so it did!

As we worked away on the tables and chairs, we shared many stories of satisfying cleaning jobs. Conversation turned to tools that would make this task even easier... we pondered whether we could persuade the stakeholders who would benefit from our cleaning at Thursday's party to fund a pressure washer purchase. We learned that these are referred to as "water blasters" in New Zealand thanks to Analiese - a term which we thought sounded more appropriate for a brand of super soaker toys! 😆

It's surprising what can be achieved in one hour with seven pairs of helping hands - the weeding was complete and all the tables and chairs had been scrubbed and rinsed down. We finished off the chocolates, took a quick group selfie and then headed off home for the evening. Thanks to Biscuits for hosting us, feeding us chocolate and coming up with the pun. Great work team - hopefully see some of you at the TRAID tasks tomorrow, or back here at Age UK H&F to help with the party on Thursday!
