35 GoodGymers have supported FLORENCE GREEN with 23 tasks.

In an exact repeat of last weeks tasks except for the change in GoodGymer's as we had Marta, Julian and Steve back in the team, we headed up the hill to Florence Green.
The task was again to remove the weeds from between the hedges (that we planted!!) and leave anything that looked like a wildflower. And then bag up the weeds that couldn't fit in the compost bins.
It was amazing to see the difference that we have made. We have given the hedges the best chance of survival, eventually they'll be big enough to fend of those weeds themselves.
Next week we are heading to Ladywell Fields to shift some woodchip.

With the promise of lighter evenings, we gathered at Glass Mill with the slightest bit of lighter sky remaining. Not long until we won't need the lights and head torches and they can go away for another summer.
Welcome to Ndubuisi hope you enjoyed your first GoodGym ssssion and that we'll see you back at future sessions.
The task for the evening was to clear the weeds between the hedgerows at Florence Green. We planted these and then removed their protective casing and now we're making sure they're not overrun by weeds until they get big enough to stand their ground.
We've made good progress along the row and hopefully by the end of next group run we'll make it to the end!

Planting the bulbs at Florence Green had been months in the making! First the council didn't deliver them on time and then we were scuppered by the frozen ground meaning we couldn't get them in the soil even though they'd arrived. We finally had a date in the diary and there hadn't been any frost in sight.
The Glass Mill group made their way up to Florence Green whilst others met us at the task. Paul was in a virtual Cardiff suburb (Lewisham Way) tackling the litter to help achieve a relay that GoodGym Cardiff are doing for the January Challenge.
Once all assembled and the bulbs in hand, we set about planting big bulbs closest to the tree and smaller bulbs towards the outside. We had to be careful not to dig up bulbs that we've previously planted and also deep enough so the squirrels don't try and dig them up for a tasty snack!
It's nearly the end of the January Challenge and we're so close to achieving our goal - fantastic work team!!

14 of us gathered at Glass Mill ready to plant the bulbs at Florence Green. Paul kindly lead the warm up and brought the group up to Florence Green whilst I tried to walk as fast as I could so not to delay getting stuck into the bulb planting.
Subo had organised the bulbs by tree and we were each assigned a pack of bulbs to plant with a variety of tools. Some more effective than others... A variety of bulbs were planted including daffodils and aliums.
We then moved onto our next task for the evening which was removing the stakes from the hedges that we planted a long while back, only if we thought they were strong enough to survive on their own without support!
We were soon done and dusted with that task as well and it was time to head back to Glass Mill.
Welcome Joshua to your first GoodGym session - hope you had a wonderful evening and we'll see you again soon!
We might be visiting Florence Green again before the year is out as they're expecting another delivery of bulbs from the council.
Next week we are heading to The Albany to tackle a list of jobs in the garden and of course the usual litter pick of the perimeter.

Double task week and a double new GG-er's week - my favourite kind of week. Welcome Kirsti and Olga, we hope to see you at many more group runs!
In the continued saga of my Kim-jury, I was taking public transport to the task after being told I'm not allowed to cycle. Paul and Oli kindly led their groups to the correct tasks - thank you!
The tasks for this evening were to clear the litter at The Albany and clear the weeds at Florence Green. Fortunately for the hedges but unfortunately for us, the dry weather had meant that there weren't as many weeds as we expected!
Don't forget it's the grand opening party of Florence Green on Sunday!

On a cold sunny Sunday morning, 4 Good Gymers descended on Florence Green in New Cross. The volunteers there needed help developing the space and Good Gym were soon put to work digging trenches ahead of future planting of new hedgerows, and equally importantly clearing away mud and dug-up grass to prevent the remaining grass from dying. Before you knew it the work was done and we were rewarded with tea and biscuits. This is a lovely task that will need help for a while so look out for future sessions.
