🎵 Timing in the rain, just timing in the rain🎵

Sunday 5th January

Written by Graham Lee

Seven GoodGymers joined the team of volunteers at Lessness Abbey Woods junior parkrun on a damp and breezy Sunday morning.

Our newest member, Corletta, certainly picked a good day for her first task! While Corletta volunteered, two of her children did their first ever junior parkrun, and the rest of the family cheered them on. Well done all round!

Run Director Keeley also notched up her first GoodGym good deed. The rest of us performed timekeeping, barcode scanning, finish tokens and marshalling.

Despite the rain, 25 juniors ran and walked the 2km course which made for an enjoyable morning for the volunteers.

Event completed, we headed to the Chestnuts cafe for a well earned coffee.

We're listing this event as a weekly community mission now, so dive in and join the fun!

Parkrun fun

Sunday 1st December 2024

Written by Sarah Wren

We gave high fives galore when we joined the hi-viz marshals at Lesnes Abbey junior parkrun to cheer 37 young runners (and a few parents) around the three lap course.

It's hard to know who enjoyed it more, us or the parkrunners!

Same time, same place on the first Sunday of January. Come and join us!

Parkrun fun

Sunday 3rd November 2024

Written by Sarah Wren

We always have fun helping out at junior parkrun.

The children love high-fiving our giant hands as we marshal the event.

There are lots of different roles available for volunteering at parkrun, from barcode scanning to timekeeping so you can mix it up each time.

And the cafe does lovely hot drinks for afterwards.

It's a pretty good way to start a Sunday, so why not give it a go next time?

Round and round and round they go, where they stop, nobody knows...

Sunday 6th October 2024

Written by Harvey Gallagher (he/him)

...not even the runners! Obviously, they stop at the end of the three lap course, but there can be multiple stops in-between, depending on the runner.

Our tail walker had numerous little stops en route to the finish today, until the children themselves came up with the magical solution - once you've finished, go to the back and run alongside those still going, genius! This is just the motivation required for any young person starting to feel a bit tired. In fact, by the end of the run, our tail walker was completely alone, as the final runners sprinted over the line!

It was a first time at this junior parkrun for Ashton and Harvey, and they both stayed on for the next task in Abbey Lesnes Woods, well done guys!
