All change

Sunday 19th November 2023

Written by Gwyn Williams

Tracey and Gwyn volunteered for Markeaton juniors, but there was a problem in their admin. We went to Long Eaton juniors instead, and met some old friends and made some new ones. They'd moved their start and finish area, which confused us a bit. The volunteers and children had a great time. We ran the parkrun course as a freedom afterwards.

Lucky for some

Sunday 17th September 2023

Pete, Tracey and I volunteered for Markeaton junior parkrun. We met the team and had a good chat with old and new friends and enjoyed seeing thirteen children running their first ever parkrun on a good running day, with 84 runners altogether. Pete had to leave but Tracey and I ran the 5k course in intervals as a parkrun Freedom.

B friendly

Sunday 18th June 2023

Written by Gwyn Williams

Just Tracey and me at the group run today. We met the friendly team at Markeaton junior parkrun and were joined by GoodGym-er Emma who was also volunteering here, her usual juniors being off this week. It was course B this week, which is all on grass. Tracey spotted a late starter while marshalling, and I turned one of the runners back on course. We had a lovely chat with Gemma, the Run Director, and one of the very friendly team. For our run, we then ran intervals on the Markeaton parkrun course.

Fast, Markeaton or both?

Sunday 5th February 2023

Written by Gwyn Williams

We met the friendly crowd at Markeaton junior parkrun on a frosty morning with the sun very low in the sky. After setting up the finish area, we joined them in a warm-up. I was a timekeeper, and Tracey was scanning the barcodes, with friends old and new in the other rôles. After volunteering, we had an interesting variety of run-based exercises while completing a parkrun Freedom, then walked to our start. We'd have liked to have had more than two GoodGymers there.

Out in the Cold

Sunday 22nd January 2023

Written by Gwyn Williams

Matt, Tracey and I got together to volunteer at Markeaton junior parkrun on a frosty day. It was good to welcome Matt, who was doing his first GoodGym group run. Thank you for joining us, Matt! It looked very quiet indeed as we walked to the start, then Tracey did some detective work and we walked on to Course B. This is all on grass and runnable when frozen. It was hard to put the funnel into the solidly frozen ground, but we got there, and then we joined in the warm up: very much welcome! Matt and I tail walked, thus keeping warm, while poor Tracey was standing still as a marshal. After the event, we ran together to Matt's car: he had to make a quick getaway. Tracey and I then ran intervals on the parkrun course.
