Merton Garden Streets is a volunteer-led initiative by local residents and businesses in the borough of Merton to make our streets greener.
The project began in 2021 and was inspired by Wandsworth’s Green the Grid project and run by volunteers from Merton's Climate Action Group. Merton Garden Streets is now delivered by Sustainable Merton, with some support from Merton Council, and led by local volunteers.
Through encouraging street and front garden planting, together we are improving community well-being and delivering important environmental benefits, such as increasing wildlife, improving air quality, and helping to prevent flooding.
9 GoodGymers have supported Merton Garden Streets and Community Growing Projects with 4 tasks.

We joined the Merton Garden Streets team and a wonderful group of local volunteers for a high-production potting session.
Establishing several production lines of marigolds, cosmos, and other vibrant seedlings. Pot by pot, we filled each with soil and re-homed numerous seedlingd ready for watering.
There were hands from all across the borough pitching in, so the workload felt light and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and sociable. The perfect way to spend a morning - getting stuck into the dirt and helping Merton get ready to bloom.

A fantastic effort by the team on our mission tonight, helping the Merton Garden Streets project get their flowers in order - literally! We successfully delivered packages of bulbs to addresses across three different areas (Raynes Park, South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood) showing splitting up can lead to a lot of blooming good.
Prioritizing safety, each team either walked, ran or cycled ensuring an energized evening of community effort, sowing the seeds for a brighter, more colorful spring for residents in Merton!
