Vegging out

Wednesday 4th February

Written by Jade

Responding to a last-minute call for help at Merton's Community Fridge to support the distribution of vegetarian meals, yoghurts, and pastries. It was a rewarding shift spent connecting with the local community and ensuring that plenty of delicious food reached those who needed it most.

Another clean up after the distribution, tackling the challenge of a significant bread surplus. By encouraging passers-by to take a loaf, we some what reduced the excess and ensured that as little as possible went to waste.

A relay-serving on the front line

Wednesday 28th January

Written by Jade

After plenty of missions spent cleaning and tidying, it was a lovely treat to be on the front line at Merton's Community Fridge distribution session, serving up meals and smiles while helping to tackle food waste. A tasty change of scenery supporting such an important community space.

After an hour it was time to switch out, and head to another job but fortunately a trusty GoodGymer was on hand to step in. Relay team effort!

Mop-portunity knocks!

Monday 26th January

Written by Caroline Helder

We can't keep away from the Community Fridge, or at least not while there are lots of jobs to do! The evening's remit, after running to the task, was to sort food according to date and pack it into labelled boxes. Meanwhile, the rest of the team set about cleaning and tidying the church kitchen. We totally nailed both jobs, before making our way to the pub for a well-earned social. As well as relaxing over a beer we surprised Jade by presenting her with her trophy for Goodgym's Sean Coxhead Inspiring Individual Award. Congratulations to Jade and a big welcome to first-timers Carmen and John, as well as Goodgym tourist Louise from Islington. On a sadder note, we said goodbye to Rob but hopefully he will visit us when he's down in London.

Batteries now included

Wednesday 14th January

Written by Jade

We returned to Merton's Community Fridge to finish what we started: this time sorting through supplies and getting every box clearly labelled; benefitting from fresh batteries in the label maker! A couple of the team also helped with the clean up. It’s amazing what a difference a few labels and some elbow grease can make.
