Join an orderly Kew!

Saturday 28th February

Written by JP

What looked like it might turn out to be a pleasant morning surprised the 5 GoodGymers who met at Richmond station to go leafleting - the temperature stayed unpleasantly low and it was quite gusty. But the weather didn't dampen our spirits as we set out armed with a pack each of leaflets from the Richmond Good Neighbours charity. We headed to the streets off the Kew Road, one of Richmond GG's happy hunting grounds for leafleting, and split into teams.

Adam and Luis started off going to the southerly roads while Cathy, Harry and JP tackled those further up the main road. Around half-way through we met up again, crossed the Kew Road and weaved our way through the residential areas on the other side.

We finished up after around an hour having delivered the vast majority of our leaflets, with Cathy offering to take the surplus back to ETNA. Then we headed on our way to enjoy the rest of Saturday and the weekend!

Delivering the goods

Monday 28th April 2025

Written by Liz (She/her)

A beautiful early summer evening to keep fit by doing good. We started at the Tap with a warm welcome to Mazin for the first time, and a lot of celebratory chat after Lucy completed the London Marathon yesterday 😍

Chatting away, we headed to Richmond CVS to collect this evening's leaflets before dividing up to cover the roads on the way up to Kew. Lovely doorways, demon letterboxes and evening sun kept us company as the wedge of leaflets receeded until it was time for us to call it a night and head off in our own directions!

Leaf-wet

Saturday 7th December 2024

Written by JP

Following a few last minute dropouts only 3 hardy GGers met up to deliver cards for the Richmond Good Neighbours on Saturday morning. Storm Darragh was doing its worst around the country, but Richmond only suffered a few gusts and a little rain, so we went ahead with the mission.

We were delivering Christmas cards, with highlighted maps showing which streets the recipients lived on. Most of the addresses were on Richmond Hill and we divided to conquer before meeting up at the White Horse pub to divvy up a second batch. At this point Monika struck off for some streets nearer to her home, and we forgot to get a pic of all of us together, hence the "photoshop" effort.

We didn't quite have enough time to get all the cards to their destinations so there will be a little extra walkabout during the week. We were quite wet enough as it was, and relishing the prospect of a hot shower and cup of tea!

The year to volunteer

Saturday 24th February 2024

Three of us delivered charity leaflets to nearly 400 homes between Richmond and North Sheen. These charities were the elderly person support network Richmond Good Neighbours and the Richmond Volunteer Service, you can have a read about all the great things they do in the photos above and there's even a QR code to the volunteer service website!

Letterboxes are useful

Sunday 10th December 2023

Written by JP

On a wet Sunday morning new joiner Vanessa met JP at Richmond station to distribute cards for the Richmond Good Neighbours.

As there were only 2 of us, we split up and took various roads each.

While the task was straightforward, Vanessa and JP were both struck by the number of residences they could not find or deliver to, because of a lack of house number or the total absence of a letterbox. How do these people get their post?

We managed to deliver almost all the cards in the end, grateful we didn't get hit by the heavy rain which came later.

Share Fair

Sunday 7th May 2023

This morning it was a walking task, delivering leaflets for the upcoming May Fair and the Volunteer Fair.

Fortunately the rain took a break and it was quite a warm morning as 4 of us set off from the station armed with stacks of leaflets, having given a pile to Lucy to deliver later in the day.

The piles were pretty heavy so we were glad to start dropping them in letterboxes. We split into two pairs and went up to the Vineyard and the roads off it, then Onslow and the roads off that.

By the time we finished we had diminished the stacks quite a lot (thank goodness for blocks of flats!) but still had a good wedge which we dropped off at ETNA. Good to get the job done and still two days left of the weekend!
