Gone with the wind

Monday 31st August

Written by Jade

It was a breezy start to the morning at the Eco Fair, where the main challenge was wrestling with displays in some proper gusty weather!

Setting up the display and clothing rails in high winds is no easy feat, but fortunately, there was no shortage of eager helpers on hand. Working together, we managed to pin down the displays, secure the stalls, and get 2 stalls ready for visitors.

Sleighing the ground

Wednesday 26th August

Written by Jade

Somewhere beneath a fortress of savage brambles, aggressive weeds, and stray litter lay a secret storage zone. This area was destined to house a special, top-secret item. One that must remain safe, sound, and ready for when Santa Claus himself touches down this December. Failure was not an option; Christmas was literally on the line.

We arrived to find a prickly terrain to which the team just dived right in, hacking through the wilderness.

With fewer tools than we would have liked, we had to get creative. We commandeered a lone, trusty wheelbarrow found nearby for our transport vehicle. As the cutting crew cleared the thorny barricades, others helped Rosemary (from the Rotary) clear the area of litter, ensuring the future festive hub was spotless.

Thanks to the last minute sign ups there is now a Santa-ready storage space. So we left with the knowledge that the December operation is officially secure.

Well done team, you really pulled it out of the bag tonight, especially those who flew in from outside Merton - amazing and of course what we do! Merton Rotary are so very grateful.

A Mind-ful evening

Thursday 2nd July

Written by Jade

Four of the GoodGym team headed to the William Morris Pub to fly the flag for local fitness and community action.

We were there to support the Rotary Club of Merton and Sport in Mind with the launch in Merton. It was the perfect opportunity to network, share collaboration ideas, and chat to attendees about GoodGym. it seems we are already set to help with the fundraising efforts having already been assigned the Santa sleigh collection for the Sport in Mind initiative in December but hope to get involved with whatever we can in the coming months.

The team did a fantastic job building local connections and reminding everyone why we were recently named Health and Wellbeing Team of the Year! Well done all.

Brushing up for the hoopla

Friday 19th June

Written by Jade

Three of the team rolled up their sleeves to transform a community table for future summer hoopla fundraisers. Accurate measuring and careful masking tape application were absolutely key to setting up clean, crisp lines before any color could be added.

Once the layout was locked in, we needed a steady hand to carefully paint the vibrant striped design. The time and care was worth it - looking incredible, the table is now ready for its final top coat before it helps raise funds for the community. Well done creatives 👏!

Prime time to turn the table

Wednesday 17th June

Written by John Ballard

Two dedicated GoodGymers headed along to support the Rotary Club of Merton to tackle a brilliant furniture upcycling project.

The pair got stuck into giving an old, weathered table some serious TLC by sanding, and working up a sweat to smooth down the rough edges and prep the wood. Once the dust settled, they applied a flawless coat of primer, leaving the table completely transformed and ready for its next chapter.

As a bonus, the team gave the surrounding patio an almighty clear-up while on-site, filling two big black sacks with garden debris to leave the entire area looking pristine!

Wednesday 21st January

Written by Jade

Despite the downpour we headed over to help Merton Rotary with setting up for their event. Joining forces with other volunteers we prepped the tables and got everything in place ahead of the guests arriving for the presentations.
