Steam it, Spray it, Sorted.

Monday 11th March

Written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

It was International Women's Day on Friday, so we kicked off by highlighting our favourite females. From Rosa Parks to queen Jacinda to amazing family members, we demonstrated that the best, most caring, and morally correct people are always women.

Next we ran up the hill to CP Triangle and our regular task at the St Christopher's Hospice charity shop. Teresa is always super grateful for our help and ability to give the place a quick spritz and blitz.

Adam was sorting odd shoes and found some serious labels with a price to match.

Cat was steaming through a rack of creased clothes.

Louise, Molly and Stephen and Kelly were making sure all the garments were ordered nicely and facing the right way.

James was hoovering the whole shop and Kelsey was dusting the shoe racks.

Hannah was on pricing duty, Clare was cleaning the counter and I was mostly trying to figure out the name of the teapot from Beauty and the Beast (see pic). Spoiler: it's Mrs Potts ๐Ÿ™„

After a solid half hour we bid our farewells and made our way back to base with an obligatory wallsit en route.

Nice one team ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Ho-spice up your life!

Tuesday 5th March

Written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

St Christopher's Hospice provide amazing end of life care to people across South East London and tonight's task was all about helping them to raise money for their FUN WALK fundraiser.

We jogged around a bunch of local shops, pubs and even a cinema, looking for windows and noticeboards to put posters up to advertise the event.

A few kms in the bag and hopefully some awareness raised! Nice job gang โœŒ๏ธ

Steam-work!

Tuesday 10th May 2022

Written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Tonight's run was to meet Teresa at the St Christopher's Hospice shop on Crystal Palace triangle.

We met at the Bridge House, named our favourite type of dog (there was a picture of a corgi in the window...) and set off up through the park.

We were joined by Hannah for a selection of different tasks:

โœ… Maxim smashed through the hoovering (see pic mid-lunge)

โœ… Hannah, Steve and Kate were sorting bags of clothes out the back

โœ… Nick and I were dusting and cleaning the shelves

We found some excellent items including a slightly oversized green jacket, the cutest little dress you ever did see and an owl shaped backpack.

What a hoot!

After a solid half hour's work, we bid farewell to Teresa and hit the road.

We did a nippy circuits session at Stone Penge in the park featuring some step-ups, tricep dips and press-ups before passing the set of THE GAMES in the National Sports Centre.

When we got back to base, Kate was impressively continuing her run ๐Ÿ’ฅ while the rest of us did a wee stretch.

Nice one gang! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

High Flyerers and Poster Boys

Monday 26th February

Written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Tonight we were helping out local heroes St Christopherโ€™s Hospice, spreading the word about their Fun Walk fundraiser.

We split into two groups:

โš ๏ธ The Poster Boys headed up to Crystal Palace Triangle (and may well have seen Gary Oldman in action?!)

โœˆ๏ธ Whilst the High Flyerers ran to South Norwood.

Many posters and flyers were distributed to local businesses. Hopefully the Fun Walk is successful and St Christopher's rake in loads of cash for their amazing end of life care!

Top stuff as always, team! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Stockin' Around The Christopher-mas Tree

Monday 11th December 2023

Written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christopher-mas?

This week we were off to meet Teresa at the St Christopher's Hospice shop in CP. St Christopher's help deliver amazing end of life care and their shops are a big part of them being able to do what they do so well.

First up, we met at the Bridge House, shared our fave festive films (โœ… nice to add some to the list...) and split into two groups, one going the short, steep route and the other taking the longer, more gradual ascent.

We got stuck in with a bunch of jobs:

๐Ÿ’จ steaming creases out

๐Ÿงฝ cleaning the surfaces

๐Ÿ‘— ordering all the stock and making sure the hangers were facing the right way

๐Ÿ’ช shifting sacks of donations

๐Ÿงน hoovering

๐Ÿท adjusting tags

In the end, the shop was looking truly exquisite.

We took a nice group snap and headed back down the hill for some stretches. Nice job, team ๐Ÿ‘Œ

To me, to you!

Monday 9th October 2023

Written by Bromley runner

What a lovely evening for a jog ๐Ÿƒ up to the St Christopher's Hospice charity shop in Crystal Palace! After the washout that was last week's session, we were set for sorting clothes ๐Ÿ‘š indoors on what was probably the last warm day of the year ๐Ÿ˜‚

The team departed Bridge House and we started with a quick warm up in Crystal Palace park, before heading along the main path to the Sports Centre โšฝ and out by Crystal Palace station ๐Ÿš‰ to quickly get us towards our destination. We tackled the tough incline up Anerley Hill โ›ฐ๏ธ and crossed over the Triangle, arriving at the shop at 7:20 - nice and early to get started on our task.

Teresa welcome us with a big task - moving all the clothes of summer bags out of the main storage area and swapping them with the winter bags ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. She said she once had to do this on her own and it took forever, but our GoodGym squad meant it got done in no time at all this evening โฒ๏ธ

We also got on with some regular tasks in the front of the shop. Alex was on vacuum duty, and Hannah found all the stock that needed to rotate to another shop to try and find a new home.

Once the seasonal bags had all been moved, the rest of the team got on with bagging up the clothes Hannah had found, with Fiona racking the hangers back up efficiently. It was at this time that we found the crab bell. Why a bell in the shape of a crab? Who knows! ๐Ÿฆ€

Teresa with over the moon at how tidy the shop looked, and we were ready to head back down the hill, but not before a quick photo with some of the fun clothes we'd found!

Great work everyone!
