This evenings session was a fun evening out at Tenpin Luton, located in the galaxy. It was a great turn out and we had games on 4 lanes in a row all at the same time. Everyone had a lot of fun, there were lots of laughs and smiley faces!

Great session tonight! We were focusing on random acts of kindness, and what it means to do something small which can then have a big impact on somebody else. This could be either someone you know who you want to thank, or a random stranger walking down the street! The young people either drew or wrote about their ideas for random acts of kindness, we had a wide range from people offering to wash the dishes or make a cup of tea, to offering a hug or checking up on an old friend. After this we had a team effort of a freshly cooked meal- cheese and tomato pasta bake with garlic bread. Perfect hearty food to deal with the stormy wind outside!

This week was a great session where we looked ahead to what jobs the young people might aspire to have. Many already had ideas of their own and for those who were less sure, we worked through a quiz to determine where their best qualities / skills lie and what roles they might be best suited to. This paired nicely with the next activity which was to design a poster- ‘where you aim to be in 10 years time’. We had some brilliant illustrations and ideas- the creativity was flowing.
Then there was a group cooked dinner of Burritos, which was well needed after working hard on the employment activities. Lastly, there was an exciting visit from a local theatre company, who discussed an opportunity for the young people to get involved in a play to mark the queens jubilee this summer. It’s all happening!

Made our way individually to the Transitions meeting to support this fabulous group of young people. Jack is becoming a great head chef, helping one group as they prepared a tasty chicken curry and rice while the rest were learning some key life skills. And after our meal it was my turn to assist with the washing up before running home.

It was great to be back at Transitions UK again this evening. Even after a 2 week break many of the young people remembered those of us who had been before and it was lovely to see how relaxed they were with us. Divided into two groups, Jack and Gill did not go up the hill, but took the first group on a route march to the park - encouraging those who walked on the previous visit to recall the directions. And we were then challenged by some of the swifter young ones to go for it to see who could complete a lap of the park the fastest. The other group worked on their task with Kelvin's help and prepared dinner.
How lovely to be able to share a meal with both groups, before taking the 2nd group out on an even faster route march and run and to see them starting to recognise the streets and describe the directions as they develop their bearings.

What a lovely group of young people. It was great to be able to get to know them and get out for a walk, and with a little encouragement many of them joined in with some running in the park. Thanks to Nicole and the other volunteers from TransitionsUK for making us feel so welcome and appreciated.
