What a lovely group of young people. It was great to be able to get to know them and get out for a walk, and with a little encouragement many of them joined in with some running in the park. Thanks to Nicole and the other volunteers from TransitionsUK for making us feel so welcome and appreciated.

The six of us met up, and after a short period of confusion about the meeting point and an impromptu litter pick, we eventually found the main task site.
United with Trevor from the council and the volunteers from the Luton and Dunstable Conservation group and TCV we set to work, dragging the bits of tree and bush they were cutting back down off the hill into a pile by the road.
The work we did was part of an effort to boost the ecological value of the spot and integrate it with the rest of the common. The bramble cutting created a new access point to the Common and the brush clearing and tree pruning will ensure the species-rich grassland will get plenty of sunlight and continue to thrive.

Andrew Murray earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Andrew completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Andrew was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

We de-weeded the unused area of soil, then measured the new beds planned. First we attempted to dig in the borders in straight lines (more difficult than I thought it’d be!)
Half the volunteers were shoveling compost and lugging a giant wheelbarrow. The other half were turning the soil and raking the compost in the new beds.
We made more progress than we expected in two hours and had two new beds visible for planting in the future.
There’s still lots more work to do so looking forward to seeing more Goodgym-ers there next time!

Andrew is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.
