Brrrrrrrrrrilliant to see a new face coming along to tonights run.
Please welcome, cheer and support James who has moved up to the Steel city from Brent.
On a rather chilly eve we headed up to help our good friend Rob the parky from Heeley People's Park to help him with the final layers of wood chip spreading and turning on the children's playground. This task does need doing regularly to keep the playground at it's best and safe for the users of the equipment. It's a huge job for Rob to do on his tod so we chipped and helped with the efforts.
Rob brilliantly laid out the GG red buckets for us and got us straight onto task with some filling barrows and buckets whilst others carried the chip up the hill to the playground where others were spreading and turning. It was a well oiled machine by the end of the task with all components working well together with regular changes to keep people warm and occupied.
After a good session we made a huge dent in the wood chip pile and Rob was very appreciative, as were we of his fantastic Movember mustache (keep it Rob, keep it!).
Once we had left tools tidy for Rob we said ta-ra and headed over to the U-Mix center for some fun fitness. This week we had x4 30s rounds of:
Hanging knee or leg lifts Step up'd or box jumps
Once back we stretched off to relieve our achy muscles whilst others nearby relieved themselves in other ways. Once cooled downed we headed into the Showroom for chats, drinks, food and discovered each others nicknames. Always a dangerous but interesting one...
Until next time, happy running! :)

It wasn't quite the 'Big British Rake Off' that we were expecting, but we didn't let that or the wet weather dampen our mood!
Our good friend Rob the Parky had an unfortunate incident with a couple of wasps nests on site which led to him being off work with stung and swollen ankles for a while and a part of the park being off limits until the wasps vacate with the incoming colder weather.
It was time for plan B (NOTE THE PUN!), we got secateurs in hand and went to town chopping anything that was less than finger thickness. Rob stayed with one team near the giant boulder to supervise and provide light and instruction.
Tom went with the headtorch crew who were on the move down the mountain bike trail hunting for anything that was overgrowing into the path of any RAD mountain bikers using this fantastic family friendly beginner trail that can be missed when covered and overgrown. If you or family have a mountain bike at home, get it out and pay the trail a visit!
Before thanking Rob and wishing him healing powers for his stings we headed off to the U-Mix centre for some fitness fun times with a quick and punch upstairs/downstairs type session with step ups or squat jumps for downstairs and press ups or clap press ups for the upstairs. Couple rounds of 30s on each and then we headed home keeping heart rates high.
It is def getting to dark season folks so please do remember those head torches and GG lights to keep us safe and seen, thanks!
Until next time Happy Running!

On another beautiful sunny Sheffield afternoon we met outside The Showroom Cinema and got ready for the off. Our new friend Mohammed jumped in for the group photo before we headed off toward Ship Shape with James as our trusty back marker.
On arrival, unfortunately there wasn't anyone around to greet us and provide us with tools so we had to think on our feet. We did what we could with what we had and got litter picking and weeding what we were certain were weeds! Despite trying Regather down the road to see if there was anything we could do for them quickly it wasn't a goer so we did what we could at Ship Shape, had some excellent photos at the front door and then headed to the U-Mix center for an extended fitness session.
This weeks fitness session involved some paired work with one partner on the the planters doing step up's, step up's squat downs or box jumps, whilst the others did a lap of the area.
Next up we headed down to the climbing frame and again did a couple of paired rounds of dead arm hangs, knee lifts or leg lifts whilst partners did their choice of press ups, using the concrete steps to increase/decrease intensity.
Following a fantastic fitness session we headed home for stretching and refreshments at the Showroom. Hopefully we will be back at Ship Shape again in the future.

We are hoping to start using the front beds to do food growing - support with making this area look tidy will not only make this easier, but will also be more aesthetically pleasing for those that use the centre regularly

So great to start to see some of the old GG faces coming back to group runs and numbers becoming more consistent, long may it continue. We gathered outside The Showroom and headed out to meet MARVELLOUS MARIA at Common Lane Community Garden.
On arrival Maria gave us a marvellous brief on the tasks that needing doing on the Community Garden site and around the Community Centre which included:
We got straight to it, quickly splitting into groups and getting straight on task.
Becky & Lan got down to earth, weeding a corner bed.
Ash kept a level headed repairing the compost heap with Racheal and Abi.
Once time was upon us and we’d downed tools, we went from pallets to planks with a good three rounds of ‘plank and go’ where we paired up heel to heel in the plank position and took turns in our pairs to do sprint laps around the 9 ladies style stone circle before swapping with our partner.
We had a steady jog back with a small STARVA sprint section at the end for those that fancied a challenge and then stretched off before heading inside for some refreshments from The Showroom.

It was great to see such a big crowd out for GG tonight with our biggest number since the lockdown re-start!
Fantastic to see some old faces that haven't been seen in a while as well as some new faces that are becoming more regular, as well as completely new faces such as Lan who joined us on her first GG run and seemed to have a really good time.
We took off in the August sunshine with some loop backs and chats on route to Heeley People's Park where we met fantastic Parky Rob and another 4 GG crew who had already filled the color coded trugs with woodchip in prep for this eve's task.
Rob gave us a good brief and we got straight to it filling trugs to the brim with wonderful woodchip, whilst others grabbed one, sometime two if they were feeling strong trugs and took them up the super steep Sheffield hill to a park path that was in real need of some woodchip loving. Can anyone beat The Trugonator James in the woodchip carry Olympics? I think not. The chips were lovingly spread to ensure full coverage of the path for all to enjoy and mulch down step by step.
Once we were out of time Rob told us more about how our involvement with the park had lead to successful funding bids that have purchased new playground equipment for the park users. FANTASTIC!
Feeling good, we said our goodbyes and headed toward home, before taking a pit stop at the U-Mix park for a quick 4 rounds of APPLES & ORANGES where we split into 2 teams with each having 4 exercises of 30s on the following:
After this we headed back to the Showroom to stretch our muscles and stretch our bellies for some with some sizable Showroom portions! More chips please!
