It was great to see such a big crowd out for GG tonight with our biggest number since the lockdown re-start!
Fantastic to see some old faces that haven't been seen in a while as well as some new faces that are becoming more regular, as well as completely new faces such as Lan who joined us on her first GG run and seemed to have a really good time.
We took off in the August sunshine with some loop backs and chats on route to Heeley People's Park where we met fantastic Parky Rob and another 4 GG crew who had already filled the color coded trugs with woodchip in prep for this eve's task.
Rob gave us a good brief and we got straight to it filling trugs to the brim with wonderful woodchip, whilst others grabbed one, sometime two if they were feeling strong trugs and took them up the super steep Sheffield hill to a park path that was in real need of some woodchip loving. Can anyone beat The Trugonator James in the woodchip carry Olympics? I think not. The chips were lovingly spread to ensure full coverage of the path for all to enjoy and mulch down step by step.
Once we were out of time Rob told us more about how our involvement with the park had lead to successful funding bids that have purchased new playground equipment for the park users. FANTASTIC!
Feeling good, we said our goodbyes and headed toward home, before taking a pit stop at the U-Mix park for a quick 4 rounds of APPLES & ORANGES where we split into 2 teams with each having 4 exercises of 30s on the following:
After this we headed back to the Showroom to stretch our muscles and stretch our bellies for some with some sizable Showroom portions! More chips please!
Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
