It was Plan B for the GoodGymmers old and new in Queen Square on a balmy (barmy?) Tuesday night as the runners set off for a run up a big hill with the promise of farm animals and drinking water at the top.
Chris was ready to welcome the team with the sprinkler already on the go for anyone needing a cool down - de-bindweeding the fruit cage (eating as many ripe berries as possible), de-grassing the maize field and turning the compost heap until there was actual compost accessible - all warm work on a hot evening so breaks to see the goats, chickens and pigs were encouraged.
It was great to welcome some new faces and recognise returners from pre-pandemic days. We (over) filled three wheelbarrows with naughty weeds which were moved to the bonfire before tidying away the tools and enjoying the run back down the big grassy hill.
We finished off with stretching and congratulating Richard on his 50th parkrun before heading for well-earned drinks on the back terrace at Workout - perfect!

It'll be lifting/shifting/weeding things that need doing!

We had the best time picking litter along the riverbank of the Avon. The views were perfect, the litter plenty and easy to pick. The time just flew by chatting and hunting for discarded goods. Can't wait to go back soon!
Very big shout out to Helen for earning her first good deed with this task. She even rbought her own litter pickers - what a star!
Thanks for Russ for the photos and to everyone else for making this task so enjoyable!

Alexandra Mitchell earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Alexandra completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Alexandra was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

On Saturday morning, 9 Goodgymers gathered for another collective push against the sheer never-ending environmental pollution along the riverbanks of the Avon. We jumped onto the green patches just underneath the suspension bridge and filled our big bin bags (kindly sponsored by Bristol Waste) with the discarded rubbish. This time, the price for the strangest find went to Mark from SAS for scavenging a stretch skeleton toy (leftover from last Halloween I suppose?). After an hour, the riverbank looked a lot less depressing, and we hope it won't be such a sad sight when we return to the gorge next month.
Big thank you to Alexandra and Lucy for joining us and congrat to you first good deed(s)!
