Marking Remembrance in Welling

The GoodGym team joined the Friends of Danson Park today for a rewarding session of litter picking, shrubbery trimming and woodchip transporting. ๐ช๐ณ
Ten journeys from one end of the park to the other gave everyone a great workout while helping to renew the path at the entrance of the Woodland Walk.
Afterwards, we headed to The Stables which kindly provided teas and coffees, while we chatted with the other friendly volunteers.
A fantastic team effort for the local community and nature! ๐ฟ๐
Next month's session in the park will be tree planting as part of National Tree Week. Hope to see you there!

Last night, a small group of us ran 2.5k to help set the stage at Holy Redeemer Pre-School, literally!
Transforming a handful of old wooden pallets with a fresh coat of black paint, our team worked alongside the pre-school's managers Laura and Shelley to get things into shape for a mini-stage where the children can create their own performances.
From hand sanding the wood to painting the pallets, everyone poured their energy into the project. Working outdoors by the light of head torches it was a challenge to make sure we hadn't left any bits unpainted!
An hour flew by and we canโt wait to go back in the future to help with more tasks!

Bexley Report written by Sarah W
We were back at the Community Hospice, helping Head Gardener, Jason, with his masterplan for transforming the grounds for patients and their families to enjoy.
The session got off to the best possible start when Ivar, our very own star baker, arrived with some totally delicious carrot cake cupcakes ๐ง, complete with fondant carrots on top ๐ฅ. Fully-fuelled for the task ahead, we collected shiny new blue trugs, secateurs and loppers from the shed and got busy in the warm sunshine.
Some of us settled into weeding the long border, pulling up unwanted growth gently with our hands to avoid disturbing the soil too much.
Others set to cutting back a rather unruly pyracantha hedge. Also known as firethorn, we worked very carefully to avoid the spiky thorns! Eventually the hedge will be tidy and low enough to allow a view of the woodland beyond.
The time whizzed by and, before long, it was time for a quick bit of silliness in the children's play area, before returning the tools to the shed. Then it was back to Ivar's cupcakes for a yummy finish to the morning. ๐
We'll be back again next month - we can't promise cakes but if you see that Ivar's signed up there's a very good chance!
