Greenwich Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)
We started under clouds on Wednesday. Big - and grey - and looming - and groaning.
I remember looking up actually - on my way over - I really do remember doing that - looking up and frowning - and I remember saying - "look at them clouds".
It's not every day you get treated to that kind of insight, folks. Oh no it isn't!!!!
Quite proud of myself, I was. And so I wandered the rest of the way to our starting point, and honest as honest can be, if it hadn't already started pouring and pouring by the time I arrived, I'd have said - "eh, watch out, folks, just look at them clouds".
Anyway! Enough of this silliness!
We started under clouds and under cover on Wednesday, huddled for our catch-up-musings and evening-tide greetings. Before we headed out and into a quite blissfully serene post-downpour Greenwich Park, up some hills, down some roads, and over to the Bridge in East Greenwich.
Met by Ruth, we were there to dig. A soil bed - home to much colour and life over the past few summers - is in need of a little repair and revitalising - and we were there to empty it for that to happen.
Our group weeded and raked and dug and shifted, and we ended our 40 minutes a good chunk of the way into the bed.
And it was a special evening for marking on Wednesday, because the wonderful Andy, who has been splashing his kindness and intelligence around the GoodGym and Greenwich communities since 2017, was here for his last (if only for a little while!) session before his adventure moving North to Rossington. Andy, thank you for all you've given - you've become a friend to so many in our group and we're going to be waiting excitedly for your updates, news, and photos over the coming weeks and months :)
Thanks everyone - thanks to Ruth for welcoming us so warmly (as she always does) to the Bridge - and see you all soon :)

A very lovely report :) (P.S. I also noticed those clouds, and was going to mention something too!)

Thank you for your wonderful kind comments Alex. The pleasure has been entirely mine. Greenwich GoodGym and all my lovely friends there are the one thing I am really going to miss.

Oh, that was meant to be a new paragraph, not an end of message, though a fitting place to stop. Just to say I am right now in my campervan in Rossington with boxer dogs Doris and Fred, waiting to complete on the purchase of my new house. Hope it happens soon. I shall send updates. Farewell all my very good friends and THANK YOU.

24 awesome do-gooders ran to help patch up airbeds at St Marks Church for the winter night shelter!
We had loads of new faces tonight which is always GREAT to see! Welcome to Aima, Shahzeb, Hayah, Mian and Shona! Hope you all had a good first run with us!
Very disappointed to learn about the lack of pancakes consumed on Tuesday, hopefully none of you gave up pancakes for lent so you can give it another try in the next few days to redeem yourselves!
After a few laps of the quad and some chain-tag, we headed off via Greenwich town centre to the wonderful St Mark's church who hold a weekly night shelter on a Thursday evening. There is one every night of the week in the surrounding areas, Charlton, Woolwich etc but on Thursday's it's hosted at the church and the visitors get a nice hot dinner, a warm place to sleep for the night and breakfast the next day! Lovely! Only problem is that some of the airbeds have been losing a bit of air via some pesky punctures and it was our job to locate and eradicate!
Everyone grabbed a bed and began feeling around for holes. Disclaimer: If there are any euphemisms or innuendos in this report they are 100% unintentional.
Many techniques were being adopted from sitting on the beds to see if any air puffed out to slopping some soapy suds on to see if any bubbles appeared. All valid methods and within minutes we had our first success... "YES, FOUND IT!". Once a hole was located, it was circled with a marker and then later patched up by dream team Jenny and Marta.
Meanwhile, Alex and Andy were having a grand time outside in the scout garden - which we will be back to help with in a few weeks time, it is very overgrown!
After half an hour, we had checked over 20 beds and found loads of punctures! Nice work everyone!
We said our goodbyes to Tony and then it was time for some hills but since the majority of the group have a half marathon on Sunday, I thought it would be best to opt for a nice long relaxing stretch session instead! You're welcome.
Then we headed back inside and had loads of treats which Natalie brought for her birthday, but she headed home before the end so didn't even get to enjoy her own snacks! Happy birthday Natalie, hope you had a lovely day and thanks for celebrating it with us!
Great job everyone!!! See you next time for a longer run where we will be picking up some flyers and distributing them in Greenwich on the way back!
Some community missions to get involved with over the next couple of days!
Guide running tomorrow night in Paddington with Achilles International mixed disability running group.
Conservation work at Vanbrugh pits this Saturday.
Best of luck to all those running The Big Half on Sunday! See you there! And we have a space booked at The Hare and Billet in Blackheath so please join us for some post run celebrations!

Iyad Assaf has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Iyad is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Iyad Assaf completed their first run in a new area.
Curious? Iyad has just run their first session in another area. For that explorative spirit Iyad is awarded the scout badge. A Scout is trustworthy

25 excellent GoodGymmers met in Greenwich to help the council collect Christmas trees.
We welcomed four people to their debut GoodGym task - big shout out to Elle, Iyad, Cath and Adam.
We also talked about The January Challenge and how to help GoodGym Greenwich rack up plenty of good deeds and miles. The perfect time to get involved.
After a quick warm-up, we ran together to Deptford Park tree recycling point. Handily for those of us who haven't got the best sense of direction, one road took us all the way there - win. Having debated whether or not we were still in Deptford (the consensus seemed to be that we'd gone beyond the Deptford borders, despite what the park's name would have us believe!), we split into 5 groups. Each group was assigned a few streets from which to search/scavenge Christmas trees to bring back to the depot.
We discovered that Greenwich Council have done a very good job at collecting a lot of the trees but were still able to find a few that they'd missed, including some pretty hefty ones! Having lobbed them into the recycling area, there was time for a quick fitness game before heading back along the road to do some final stretches at base.
Good work team.
