Hoe, hoe, hole?

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

It was back to the business of cleaning, measuring and cataloguing donated Things for the Library of Things, indoors and slightly warmer than it could have been with a yellow warning for ice after the day's snow.*

A bizarrely high number of hoes and drills were in the pile of Things to be listed (to be fair, I'm not sire what a non-bizarre number would be), along with camping chairs, DIY tools, a vintage seeing machine and the inevitable tent which we managed to get back into its slightly-ripped (not by us) bag. Its the only time us GoodGymmers are allowed to touch power tools so we made the most of testing, invluding the dreaded hedge-trimmers.

It was great to see more items joining the inventory and another Library opening soon in Frenchay so even more Bristolians can borrow items instead of buying and storing them.

We were soon on our way again, it seemed to have warmed up a bit and we grabbed a drink at Bar + Block as it was a bit chilly to sit out by the water whilst the speed dating happened at Workout.

Hopefully we'll be back at least once in January to sort through lots more Things!

*no snow in Castle Park

Stopping Ivy taking a-fence

Bristol Report written by Bristol runner

The ivy was maybe taking a fence but we took offence to this. Our task today was to clear the ivy away from the fence around the church. Armed with a plethora of tools on a gloriously not rainy morning we set to work. A lot of chopping, pulling and chatting and time flew by. A lovely new location for a task and after a quick break for assorted hot drinks and biscuits we had a final chop. Done!

Congratulations to Melanie on her 400th parkrun at Ashton Court just before the task (and Darren on his 450th)

Until next time…

Crisp-ness Christmas?

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

A small but perfectly-formed crack team of 5 Bristol GoodGymmers ran or walked to Brunswick Cemetery to meet up with Jo and Di of the friends group for some night-time spiral path finding.

We've been working more in the centre of the cemetery this summer and haven't spent much time on the spiral that has become weedy again so it was good to rediscover the gravel and crisp-ness of the edges.

Richard was, as ever, a gravel-finding master leaving the rest of us in his grass-loosened wake whilst Jason made good the top circle gravel. Vaguely Northern Darren specialised in emptying our smaller bags into the dumpy sack and Caroline worked down-stream on the spiral regaling us with stories of trying to get her chickens to help "mow" moss.

Lots of grass and weed roots plus soil later, the dumpy sack was heavy i deed, needing 4 of us to drag it to the edge of the cemetery and all having had a workout under the super moon!

Back to Queen Square as a bigger walking group, plenty more chat with a 90s soundtrack back at Club Haus before heading for home and Darren having his steak which was, of course, best before tomorrow, the 13th.

See you next week!
