Artificial litter‑igence at work

Reading Report written by Jenni H

This week's run report was written by AI! With Jess' upskilling on AI the topic of the night, here's what it thought we did, given the prompt 'Write me 3 paragraphs on litter picking in Reading, UK. There were 4 people and we collected 7 bags of rubbish'

A small but determined group of four volunteers came together in Reading, UK, to tackle the growing issue of litter in their local area. Armed with gloves, grabbers, and plenty of enthusiasm, they set out to make a visible difference to the streets and green spaces. Despite the chilly weather, the team worked steadily, focusing on hotspots where rubbish often accumulates, such as pathways, roadside verges, and near bus stops.

By the end of the session, the group had collected an impressive seven bags of rubbish. The haul included everything from discarded cans and bottles to food wrappers and other everyday waste. Each bag represented not just cleaner surroundings, but also a step toward encouraging others to take pride in their community. The volunteers noted how quickly litter can build up, but also how satisfying it is to see the immediate impact of their efforts.

Beyond the physical clean‑up, the activity carried a deeper message: community action matters. The four participants demonstrated that even a small team can make a meaningful difference when they work together. Their litter‑picking in Reading wasn’t just about removing rubbish — it was about fostering civic responsibility, raising awareness, and inspiring others to join future efforts. With seven bags cleared in just one outing, they proved that collective action can transform public spaces into cleaner, more welcoming environments.

While AI might not do a bad job of report writing, GoodGym is one of those things that could never be replaced by AI! Join us for our next task soon!

Can do attitude!

Reading Report written by Chris G

We met at our regular meeting place, joined by Nick for his first task in Reading, and headed towards the Thames.

Armed with litter pickers and bags, we headed along the path and collected as we went. There seemed to be an abundance of empty cans along our route!

Time past fast, and after an hour we had 7 bags full.

Thoroughly deserving, we sat down for a picnic alongside the river.

Finding our feet on South Street

Reading Report written by Jenni H

Five goodgymers met outside Siren bar on a lovely evening for a litter pick. Sam joined for his first session in Reading, having been to other areas before and Holly came for her first ever session!

3 of us ran the short stretch down to South Street, with Chris and Jess kindly volunteering to walk and bring the litter pickers.

At first glance, it didn't look like we would have much to do, but as we set off along South Street we soon filled up our bags with lots and lots of litter! We decided to leave the lone shoe Jess found in case it's owner comes along for it soon...

6 bags of litter taken off Reading's streets and a nice evening in the sunshine, what could be better?!

A little less littery and a big milestone!

Reading Report written by Jenni H

On a lovely sunny evening, four GoodGymers set out to clear up some of the litter from Reading's streets.

Armed with pickers and bags, we took a route which led us passed where we had been cheering for the half marathon a few weeks earlier and down by the canal.

Both Jessica and Ganesh got stuck in on their first Monday evening session, and Chris has now reached the mega milestone of 50 good deeds! 🎉

With 3 bags full of litter, helped along by someone neatly leaving theirs on the statue by the Abbey Ruins, we certainly earned our good deeds on this task, and left Reading a little less littery!

Watch this space for the next session!
