Sunnyhill or Bus(t) !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night our wonderful Run Leader Joao led the team out to Sunnyhill Primary School to help out on a task organised for us by Task Force hero Jo - teamwork makes the dream work as they say!

as we were heading a bit further afield it meant a meet at Streatham Hill station rather than Papa's and the team set off from there for a short run up the hill to the school.

We had a strong group of 9 willing volunteers and great to have Louise across again to help out, thanks Louise!

Check out the awesome photos (we had too many to include them all so might drop a few on the sosh's) of ourvols shifting woodchip and lifting compost from one area over to where the kids will be using it for gardening lessons.

Last but not least we had Will along who baked us some delicious cookies and that makes it all even better in my book.

Big thanks to all and we look forward to seeing you next week where we will celebrate Tilly's 100th Good Deed so don't miss that and of course those who wish can go for a drink afterwards as well! :0)

Weed Pulling & Biscuit Tasting!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night we were back in familiar surroundings with a great group ready to make a difference for our friends and hosts Papa's Park!

First things first a warm welcome to Ben who joined us for his first official GG session - great to have you with us Ben :0)

We set off on the Ferndale / Clapham North loop which is about 3.5kms and set a decent time as well while our walkers Marie-Noelle, Paul and Katie were already back at base starting the work.

Once back we divided into two groups one inside the netball court and one outside on the roadside and set about pulling all the weeds that had sprouted since we last did a session here.

By the end of the session we managed to fill 7 bins full to the brim so not a bad load considering this was all with gloved hands and no tools. We then had the pleasure of Katie's biscuits to end the session as her baker was eliminated from Bake Off two weeks ago - delish!

Big thank you to all who came out and I look forward to more baking (and seeing you of course) next time....

Calling Thor, Thor are you There…?!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Ok so last night didn't quite go to plan and that happens sometimes but at GoodGym we have an awesome group who take things like this in their stride!

Let's start at the beginning, a few of us met at Papa's and were delighted to welcome a new member to the GG Lambeth community - Boutie soyez le bienvenue - it's great to have you with us!

Fi, Will & Yianny welcomed Boutie and then as a group we set off to Thorlands to meet up with Tilly, Marie-Noelle and Paul.

So far so good - the crew were all together and ready to roll but sadly our task leader Simon was nowhere to be seen. It looks as if a meeting had overrun and Simon got caught up which meant the group had no access to tools or idea of what we could help with but when life gives you lemons..... We do a stretch and chat session! (Thanks Paul for kicking us off)

At 7:45pm we called it an evening and after sorting the Bake Off sweepstake headed off in our respective directions.

Thanks to all for attending anyway and see you next time ;0)!

Paying the Duke a Visit

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

So last night we had a bit of a change of plan - Ed from LGPFC called and emailed and they are having some logistical challenges meaning they were no longer able to meet at Pulross centre to do the planters. In the time available it wasn't possible to secure another task and so AA Yianny decided to put it to a group vote - do we bring forward the Social or head out for a run and litter pick....

Given the weather it was no surprise that the group decided to turn the session into a Coach Mission (sitting with an old man the AA) and instead chat all things GoodGym, Park Run, Races and beyond.

In light of this a big thank you to Katie, Michael, Fi and Tilly (who baked banana bread for us!) for coming out despite the weather ready to roll and for spending a lovely evening on a bit of GG team building!

In case you haven't seen it yet - check out the Great British Bake Off Sweepstake on the WhatsApp Group and get signed up if you want to be part of it.

See you next week at the Thor Lands :0)

There’s Snails and Slugs and Spiders - Oh My!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Oh what a wonderful evening, oh what a miserable day! The weather yesterday had us feeling quite up and down but what always keeps me positive is having a great GG crew out to make a difference in the community.

First up we had Rebecca back after a while away and it was lovely to see you!

An all-runner group this evening and despite the short distance we wanted to arrive early so we could get through what turned out to be a big old task. AA Yianny, Katie, Maya (it was only a little rain shower!), Michael, Joao & Rebecca set off for the less than 1km route.

Annick from Friends of Windmill Gardens needed our help to lift up huge planters, clear the 40 year old crates from beneath, clear it away and then replace the planters onto breeze blocks - an awesome heavy duty task.

After tools were distributed and tasks allocated the group attacked with zest, the muggy conditions making it a sweaty and peaty affair. There was weeding, clearing, dumping, lifting and on and on.

Not the easiest task for anyone with a bug/spider aversion (although Joao very much resembled Spider-Man climbing over the railings) but no-one shirked and after an hour we had just about completed it all, leaving only a bit of sweeping for Annick post task.

Check out the photos below and a big thank you to all, it was a really fun one!

See you all next time :0)
