Despite it being a cold and dark night it didn't deter a group of hardy Goodgymers from turning up at The Suitcases at Hope Street for an evening of exercise and litter picking and chatting. Sian and Lucien walked an additional mile to get to and from the meet up point, Ema an additional 5 miles and Sallyann cycled 4 miles. Introductions done the walkers set off along Hope Street to the Rialto whilst the runner weaved thier way through The Georgian Quarter.
At The Rialto we were all lulled into a false sense of hope - the place didnt look too bad but before long we found simply masses of rubbish. By the time we finished Steph had managed to collect a whole outfit of clothes (although not in any fit state to be worn ever again having been laid in rubbish for far too long). Two brollys which made us wonder of Mary Poppins had been around in the high winds and a vacuum cleaner - ironically in an area that was heavily littered.
Eight Good gymers and 16 bags of rubbish collected. We all went home warmed by some exercise, good company and a feeling of having made a difference (OK there may have been some slightly chilled fingers and toes) Well done to Sian for completing her fifth task,

The task tonight was at the Pagoda Arts centre, a mere stones throw from our usual meeting point. So after meeting on Hope Street the runners and walkers set off in opposite directions with the runners taking a meandering 2.5km route to meet the others there.
On arrival we were briefed about the task - clearing a grassy verge of grass, weeds and litter.
If we were being perfectly honest, we were initially sceptical of our ability to perform a task fit for a strimmer. 40 mins later however and the transformation was evident! All whilst trying not to disturb the tai chi class going on inside. Well done team!

This was our forth visit to help out at Liverpool Zero Waste Community on their Friday evening session. They have an ever growing number of sessions every day across Liverpool and it's really worth checking out their social media pages to see all the amazing work they are doing!
This evening we had myself, Heetu and Mairead who have all done this session before, Jo and Ben, both seasoned GoodGymers but their first time with LZWC and brand new GoodGymer Jane
It was a quieter night than previous weeks with not as much surplus food arriving from shops around Liverpool. But we got stuck in cleaning up spilled soup, setting up chairs and tables, sorting through bags and crates of pastries, vegetables, frozen meals, fruit and cakes and sharing them out between the 30 bags all ready to be handed to people for family and community meals.
