Double task night which meant we had a couple of people heading to Florence Green to tackle the watering and the rest of us heading to RUSS Community Housing to tackle the weeding. And a couple of us had just come from TRAID. We were helping so many wonderful organisations last night.
It was Lindsay's 50th good deed this evening. Congratulations, we can't wait to see you sporting that black tshirt soon!!
Onto the tasks both were a short run away. At Florence Green there was lots of watering the saplings.
At RUSS there was lots of heaving lifting! We had soil to shift, giant piles of weeds to shift and woodchip to shift but we got it all done and made excellent progress on the woodchip!
Vic and Sarah made excellent progress on the weeding except when it got too dark and they could no longer tell what was a weed and what was a small tree.
We then created my favourite group run photo ever which was unplanned and then some of us headed to Mamma Dough for some post-group run pizza!
Don't forget we have a lot of weekend sessions at RUSS if anyone fancies it.
It's also definitely head torch time of year now and I will be bringing the lights for outdoor tasks.

Everyone was excited for a group run to Luxmore Gardens without involving alkinet but also everyone was tired from the big half and music festivals. We slowly made our way up the hill to see just how much mulch awaited us.
On arrival at Luxmore we were met by the team with multiple wheelbarrows, plenty of tools and 2 giant bags of mulch.
It wasn't long before we got into a groove, loading the wheelbarrows, taking them down to the flower beds, raking the mulch around the plants and bringing the wheelbarrrows back.
A surprisingly quick amount of time later and both bags were empty!! Next time, we're going to have 3 bags to empty!

To start the group run this week, I was interested to know if anyone had discovered any new favourite sports to watch since the Olympics have been on. We had some new sports and some sticking with their favourite sports from last week.
Our group run task for last night was Luxmore Gardens and on arrival after tackling the hill, we were given the good news that Glendale had weeded so we got to do more cosmetic tasks.
On our to do list was: - tidy up the edges of the border nearest the gate so that it looks tidy when people enter the park - untangling the bindweed that's taking over some of the plants - technically weeding - chopping back some of the bigger shrubs and plants - covering the border near the gate with a layer of mulch plus relocating all the bugs to a new area of the garden
A short run meant that most of us were back for the 800m final! Don't forget we have the summer social on Saturday at Hilly Fields - more details to follow today!

On a hot Monday evening and with multiple reminders to bring water, 12 wonderful GoodGymers spent the evening clearing self seeding weeds at RUSS Community Land Trust.
Lucky for us, it was a short run to the task this evening and after a little warm up and discussion of what our favourite Olympic sport is, we were quickly on our way to RUSS.
It was a brand new group run task for us this evening and it's definitely a project that we'll be involved in over the coming months.
Our task for this evening was to clear the self seeding weeds to make some space for planting in the borders. Sue has some fabulous ideas of what is going to be planted and there's going to be 2 ponds. Time flies when you're pulling weeds up and shifting the woodchip.
There was time for a tour which revealed even more flower bed that we'll need to help clear. And then also time for a cup of tea and biscuit - thank you for treating us!
Next week it's a trip up the hill the Luxmore Gardens to continue the weeding.

Unlucky for some but not us, 13 GoodGymers gathered outside Glass Mill ready to tackle the hills to help the garden team at Seniors.
We skipped the warm up this week in favour for a steady run as a group to Seniors as it's a bit of a longer run and I'd spent too long chatting as usual!
At Senior's, Alice had a big list for us to get through which included: - watering the plants - admiring the plants in the poly tunnel after we did some hot bedding - clearing the weeds that were growing through the cracks in the building - planting tomato plants - covering the stems of the tomato plants with vaseline to protect from slugs - moving the fly tipped woodchip from the front of the building to near the poly tunnel
Anyone who wasn't there and happens to think "who would fly tip woodchip". It's the same question we thought and the same question the gardening team at Senior's though. Next time, a little request that they fly tip in a more convenient location for the gardening team. Luckily for us, it was a good workout moving it in wheelbarrows.
Most of us frequented the local drinking establishment whilst the rest of the group tackled the hills back to Glass Mill.
Big cheers for Khai who completed his longest run yet!! Amazing effort especially on those hills. We'll make sure next weeks group run is a short and flat route...it actually is!
We have a brand new group run next week to The Ladywell Unit to help in their garden. It's around 1km there so 2km in total.
