Sheffield Report written by Annie Anthony Mays
7 runners met up at The Showroom Cinema. 2 runners (Michelle and Celine) could not join us but took some leaflets where they can distribute in their area of home and work in Sheffield. We left a dozen leaflets at The Showroom Cinema because there were none left. I personally left some a week ago. The other 5 runners started running to various pubs, cafes, and hubs that will actually welcome the leaflets. The Rutland Hotel Pub, The Forresters Pub, and various other pubs were really welcoming and we actually ended up for a drink too. Various cafes on Division Street greeted us with respect and kindness. Prior to this I have also taken leaflets to The Circle on Rockingham Street. The runners also walked into hubs where leaflets were placed for the public to take. We also took photos of the installation of The Lions and included our task as a touristy fun run. I also spotted and targeted various groups of people and explained to them about the play and gave them information of where to go. Also met Kiki, a theatre enthusiast and works with Refugees and she informed me that she also will take some leaflets to her church . All in all it was good swamping of leaflets. After the run I personally went back to Utopia Theatre to check how the Opening went and majority that I met said that the play was so emotional, fantastic, overwhelming and would like to see it again.

Altogether 9 Goodgymmers turned up. Celine and Cat started walking from Decathlon. The remainder 7 started running up the streets, up , up hills through Norfolk Park and up, up and away. We stopped to look at some sculptures especially the 'Doe and Toad'. Then more uphills but somehow did not come into contact with the 2 walkers. They must know a shorter route because they were already at Arbourthorne School when we arrived. Still a mystery how they walk faster than the 7 runners. Anyway we met Angela and Rachel and they explained the tasks involved. We were then given tools, equipments and gloves. Then went to the areas identified and started pruning the willows whilst others weaved them. Fortunately Adrian , the gardener by profession knew how to use a battery operated strimmer and he managed all the paths and areas needed attention. Also fortunately we have 2 other strong men, Rob and Joseph managed to uplift a heavy, compost bin and emptied the contents onto a wheelbarrow. Hard work done by 9 Goodgymmers BB with the extra help from Angela and Rachel. The pruning and weaving of the willows kept us going and we forgot about time because it was such a joy. We finished at 8 pm. I cheekily asks for biscuits for all if us because Angela did mentioned it earlier in. I said we will work hard first then will enjoy the biscuits after. So true to Chocolate Hobnobs Biscuits. Such a Joy!

First of all welcome Jenny Hide to Goodgym. This is her first session. Altogether 8 runners ran in light drizzle from The Showroom up to Lynwood Gardens. We were met by David who then gave us instructions and introduced himself to us. Nice and friendly David gave us various tools, gloves and led us to the cycling path which was overgrown . We were then given further instructions of what needed doing. We worked in pairs, cutting, pruning. pulling weeds out , sweeping and showelling the greenery, leaves and branches to designated areas. Lots of stinging nettles needed attention and pulling or pruning back. Fortunately 8 of us and strong, experienced David managed to clear the cycling path to make it safe for pedestrians and cyclists.

3 GG Angels ran up to Maltravers Street to meet up with David and Gerry . Then Andy turned up in a red car . Andy was then given a new Hi Vis Volunteer Vest. Looks good Andy!. We were then briefed by Gerry and tools were given to start our task of Litter Picking. David brought the tools and informed us what to do...Cutting of hedges were left for the men to do. They look hardcore so let them get on with this task. We collected loads of litter on the pavements, near the bus stop, round the public areas and near the roadsides too. We got very carried away and worked hard and time passed so quick and we did extra time so to speak. Fortunately not too far to run back and it was downhill for the Angels. Reaching City Centre on my way back home I stopped at Tudor Square and managed to watch the finals of The Snooker Tournament outside The Crucible Theatre. There were a lot of Chinese Supporters too and I was fascinated by the crowd in their Deck Chairs enjoying their drinks and being entertained. Just a couple of photos I took. Wished many Goodgymers were here to appreciate the lively City of Sheffield.Thank you yo Gerry for taking some photos too. Really appreciate.
