Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
20 amazing people met up at Vivo Gym on Tuesday to run to a small patch of ground in Bedminster that needed a GoodGym blitz!
We'd been having intermittent showers throughout the day but luckily the rain held off for our run. We gathered in a circle just outside the gym and did our usual introductions - a massive welcome to our newest runners Marie and Paul. Paul, along with ex-Bristol GoodGymer Gareth are very close to getting a Plymouth branch set up - I forsee lots of great runs with them in the future!
It was an easy run over to the gardens, where I thought it was going to be a tiny patch of ground with space for only a few people, but it transpired that there was a lot more to do, so sadly the plan of splitting in to three groups to not just garden but also run around a bit more didn't come to pass.
The gang got well and truly stuck in and cleared about 12 brown sacks of weeds (and perhaps a few non weeds snuck in there too). They also planted a few little bushes and made the unloved space a lot more attractive and ready for more plants - GOOD WORK TEAM!
Chris led a slightly longer run back for those who wanted it (most people) and I led a shorter run (but still longer than the run there) and we did a little glute strengthening work in Queen Square until we were joined by the other runners.
After a good stretch (right down to the toes!) I made what I hope was an empassioned plea for help in a few weeks with Easton Community Garden's restoration after a fire and Chris reminded people about the cycle ride on Saturday down to the community farm in Chew Magna. I forgot to mention the GoodGym Social where we've got a lot of amazing things to celebrate, so do come along to that if you can make it!
Wow, loads of links in this report - are you still with me? Hope so! Actually, that's it for now. Thanks for reading!
