On a beautiful Bank Holiday Monday, 11 amazing runners forewent the festivities and insteady spent their evening leafleting for a local hospice.
After the loveliest of Easter weekends I expected that most people would want to keep chilling out in the warm air all the way through until Tuesday. But I was surprised to greet a group of eager runners, ready to make the most of their Bank Holiday Monday with a run in the sun.
Our task was to deliver fundraising leaflets for the amazing Woodlands Hospice - a fantastic and essential facility based by Aintree Hospital. Our target delivery area also happened to be in the area where we are based, Liverpool's beautiful Georgian Quarter. So our initial run was just 0.6km before we began a series of semi-competitive leafleting races on either side of the street.
Team Christine took an impressive early lead, but this week's shout out and kudos go to Eimear and her team who were the come-back kids, winning the competition 3 - 2.
We distributed 300 leaflets in record timing. Meaning there was loads of time for a fitness session. And I had just the thing in mind!
We wandered down to Cathedral gardens, a lovely cool spot in the shadows of Liverpool's enormous Anglican cathedral, and the perfect spot for some hills drills. On the warmest evening of the year so far, the team worked super hard with an impressive display of hill sprints followed by a little core work.
Really fantastic work tonight team - AND on a Bank Holiday to boot. You'll all heroes to me :)
Next week we'll be back at the wonderful Bombed Out Church and I'd love to see you there.
We offer free care for people in our community struggling with life limiting illnesses or end of life care. We enable, care and support the whole family through this journey. Offering services such as complementary therapies, pain management, bereavement support and hospice at home. Our aim to to give our patients the best quality of care and support possible. We need to raise £3500.00 a day to keep these services in the hospice running and free for all who need us. We desperately require assistance for physical tasks such as a bag pack in a large Supermarket and Street Collections for a busy 3 day period! These tasks can raise much needed income for Woodlands Hospice and can be fun and rewarding as a team effort!
