Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Lyndsey Hay (She/her)
Seven mildly moist and rather weary Good Gymers made their way along the Haxby high street, past the doctors surgery and into the Wigginton Community Garden. There we were met by Lorraine, who gave us a quick tour and showed us what needed to be done. We repositioned the gazebo, adjusting its height and thereby reducing the chances of an accidental beheading. We planted some fruit canes, then moved on to working on the path, which needed a thorough weeding.
Our task done, Lorraine treated us to tea and cake round the picnic table, which was extremely welcome. With three tasks under our belts, not to mention rather a lot of cake, as the bees buzzed and the grass rustled in the breeze we considered ourselves lucky to be out in such a lovely setting. A good crew and a good day - well done everyone.
It’s been a blank canvas for so long, but now work has started in earnest on the garden. Come along with us on our journey and watch it grow. We want it to be a special place in the heart of our community of Haxby and Wigginton: Somewhere to pause and breathe Somewhere to be with others, to be with new friends and old Somewhere to grow Somewhere sustainable Somewhere to find biodiversity Somewhere beautiful Located next to the GPs surgery, we are partnering with them and many others to provide opportunities to thrive and grow.
