Sheila and Sol met up at the Community Allotment for our regular Friday slot. Last night's thunderstorm had done the watering for us, so it was straight on to the next task. We loaded horse manure onto 2 empty beds and dug it in well. We covered it with weed suppressant membrane and left the worms to do their stuff Next we continued filling one of the compost bays with horse manure, layering with newspaper. Each bag of manure had its own unique texture and aroma! We stopped after a couple of layers so that Luke can add some slats to the front to keep the goodness in. Lastly, we pulled up the blighted tomatoes and bagged them up for disposal. We said our Goodbyes and went off to catch-up with results in the US open and Paralympics

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
