Report written by Barnet runner
Twelve terrific GoodGymmers ran 9km to help the volunteers at Friary Park.
Meeting at the Phoenix, we discussed corona virus avoidance tips while sheltering from the surprisingly windy night. After some quick names and numbers we got going with Kat capably back marking.
This is GGB's longest run, with a couple of decent hills on the way too, so it was \ great effort from everyone. We reached the park and met Richard and his volunteers.
There would be three main tasks: litterpicking, edging flowerbeds, and edging pathways. We split into teams: Kat and Rob took teams litterpicking, Fiona and Rachel worked on the flowerbed, while Pesh attacked the edges of the paths with a shovel.
With 25 minutes hard work we had two full bags of rubbish, a very tidy flower bed, and some much tidier edges to the paths. Richard was very pleased and we made plans to visit again when the sun is shining (clocks change soon!).
From there it was the tough trek back, with Kat once again back marking. It was a brilliant effort by everyone, especially into the wind, with only a couple of quick stops. We thought we'd lost Rob at one point, but he'd stopped at co-op to buy hot cross buns, obviously.
Thanks very much to everyone for your efforts!
