Saba done 100 good deeds with GoodGym.
Saba has just reached another level: 100 good deeds with GoodGym. That's at least 100 times when they could have easily done something easier. But they didn't, Saba has kept going and going. Helping a lot of other people and getting a bit fitter at the same time. Congratulations Saba.

Leaflet drops...a great excuse last night for 5 of us to get back into that "Barnet group run" vibe.
Running through the streets of Finchley (Covid safely of course), hands full of glossy flyers for Northway Gardens, we couldn't help but notice the amazing houses some of which had no letter boxes or open gates...Do these people never get post?
Nevertheless, we managed to shift a fair amount of flyers whilst covering a 4km route. Not bad for a warm humid evening well done to everyone who came and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.

Twelve GoodGym members came to Martin’s primary school to help with the Woodland Paths. We met with Tristan who explained our task (he has been non stop through the whole pandemic and was glad of a little help). Before we set to work we gathered in a circle introduced ourselves and recommended (or not) the latest film we had seen. ( Most people couldn’t recommend the latest film - just goes to show we need to get out more! ) Welcome to Laura on her first outing and David on his first visit to Barnet. ( give them a shout out welcome from Barnet). We then did a short warm up before getting stuck into the wood chip with spades and rakes. Transferring the chips onto the paths with wheelie bins and wheelbarrows. Our sweaty activities seem to attract some biting insects which was tough for those with shorts on! (So sorry Saba... who was in particular targeted - take it as a compliment they must know you are nearly at a 100 good deeds) After about 40 minutes we finished up and many of the group went for a run around the field.( Jeffing with 10 seconds fast and then slow ) We then finished with some stretches. Thanks for coming and doing good.
Paul ps lots on over the next two weeks enjoy getting out and about with Goodgym.

Nine neat Goodgym members gathered at a new green space called the Finchley way. It was the site of a grand old house that would have dominated the area in the 1800. It is now a rather large mound of earth, which we gathered below to listen to Alan from the friends group.(who are looking to develop the site ) Alan was very meticulous in his description of potential hazards for the task ahead. He even mentioned wild bees (something I have never talked about in a safety briefing .... how little do I know!) Most of us were put to work clearing bushes from the fence line to allow a view onto the grass. We then moved the cut branches into a pile for collection by the council. Others were litter picking. After this was completed Richard took us further into the wood which was being cleared by other volunteers. Including our own Diane who had arrived early and had been appropriated into another working party. ( Give her a cheer for her enthusiasm as she had already done a massive delivery for Colindale food bank!) We got a view of the grade 2 listed flats built in the 1900 and told the story of why they were built. Then all of a sudden a lady was rushing towards us ripping off her shirt as she was being accosted by wild bees. It was at his point that our enthusiasm for history and strange communes wanned and we headed back out to the relative safety of the grass. We then headed home.(all except Diane who was still working in the wood). Thanks for coming and doing good. Lets hope the bees find a new home for our next visit as there is so much more to see and do here.
