Bagging a Good Deed

Friday 5th September

Written by Sarah

A brilliant effort this morning for three Goodgymmers Nick, Mick and jimmy joined Rich from Canal And River Trust got stuck into a litterpick and general tidy-up along the canal. Huge well done to all of them making the session happen after a tense moment thinking we weren't going to make the minimum numbers. Shout out to Mick who came along for his very first Good Deed, great to have you with us, and hope you are back for more.

With gloves, life jackets on and bags at the ready, they tackled everything from stray cans and footballs to pesky plastics, giving the canal path a well deserved spruce up. It’s amazing what a difference a small team can make in just a short time!

Some lovely comments from the GoodGym community:

💬 Jen says: “Wow it looks great 👍 well done folks 👏”

💬 Ashley adds: “Jolly good job there folks 👏”

💬 Lindsay says: “Lovely day for it too 🌞”

Weldone to everyone who came along keeping it going 💪.

This towpath is getting a little too 'unbridled' for my liking!

Friday 8th August

Written by Jeanette Douglas

A great time spent with Rich & Pete from CRT, who with seven of the Leicester GG team got cracking cutting back the overgrown vegetation blocking the towpath and clearing up the rubbish. Dave saved a Hobby Horse from its watery demise - made a change from the usual shopping trolleys that we pull out of the water. Rich enjoyed his first Leicester session and will be back 🤞 Todays tally of retrieved rubbish: 13 coconuts, 8 bags of rubbish, 3 chairs and 1 Horse! Well done Nick, Julie,Melanie,Dave,Stu,Rich + Jen.

Towpath Triumph

Friday 23rd May

Written by Sarah

7 GoodGymmers laced up their trainers and grabbed their litter pickers to tackle the towpath along the canal. In partnership with the Canal & River Trust, our mission was clear- to clean up the tow path keeping it spic and span for everyone to enjoy and help the environment.

From plastic bottles and cans to discarded wrappers and bottle tops, no piece of trash was too small to pick up. We filled 4 full bags of trash! A shout-out to our newest member, Gillian, who joined us for her first GoodGym task. Weldone for getting stuck right in, hope you enjoyed it!

On route Dawn placed one of the 'Random acts of knitting and crochet kindness' on a bench for someone to find and bring a smile to their face, weldone Dawn a lovely thing to do.

Weldone everyone fantastic efforts on a lovely sunny day see you again soon!

Can-al Do Attitude!

Friday 9th May

Written by Sarah

Well done, team - fantastic efforts today, four full bags of litter collected along the canal and Slater Street, that's less filling up the canal!

Armed with litter pickers, bags, hoops, and plenty of energy, five fantastic GoodGymmers set off down the canal path toward Slater Street (because let’s face it, there’s always a can or two waiting for us there). As expected, Slater Street didn’t disappoint - but neither did we.

With the sun beaming down and the conversations flowing, it was a perfect day for our task. After doing our good deed, we enjoyed a brisk walk back to base, feeling great about our efforts.

Great to see one of our newest members Julie again and hear about her past marathon successes after Sarah is still talking about London.

Special shout-out to Stu our walking inspiration who's aiming for an incredible 100 miles in May. He’s already clocked up 50 miles, and we’re only halfway through the month. Keep stepping, Stu, keep us updated!

Three is the magic number

Friday 2nd May

Written by Jeanette Douglas

Goodgymers Jen and Stu met up with Richard from CRT for a walk along the towpath picking litter as they went. The temperature was lower than the day before which made it quite a pleasant walk. The usual collection of drinks cans and bottles made up the majority of the rubbish snaffled into bin bags. A late find of a football provided another predictable find. Eight bags of rubbish collected and a patch of giant bog weed reported in by Rich. The vegetation is growing making the towpath area look quite lush and green. Well done to Stuart for keeping up with his Equinox24 Training.Stu
