Dons Local Action Group

Keeping our community fed, connected and supported

We are a community of volunteers supporting people facing severe financial hardship across South West London. Through our local networks, we provide essential items such as food, technology, and furniture to those in need – working alongside schools, councils, charities and other partners to make sure help gets to where it’s needed most.

22 GoodGymers have supported Dons Local Action Group with 15 tasks.

A Brush with Pride

Saturday 5th September

Written by Jade

Armed with paintbrushes, palettes, and pots of glitter, it was a creative support needed today with face painting on the Dons Local Action Group stall at Merton Pride fair. The queue was non-stop from the moment I sat down, but the brilliant atmosphere kept energy levels high and the rainbows and sparkles kept flowing along with plenty of other designs.

Uniformly Utilised

Friday 21st August

Written by Jade

With the new school year just around the corner, we were called in for an urgent collaborative mission to support a Wandsworth Council initiative alongside Donate to Educate and The Scrubbery - with Dons Local Action Group stepping in to drive the garments over to Merton.

A massive haul of surplus school uniforms acquired from supermarkets was due for delivery, so our mission was all about pure organisation: counting, sorting, and carefully packing ready-to-collect bundles into cages.

Working batch by batch through piles of trousers and shirts, our energy was uniformly utilised from start to finish!

It was a brilliant effort that will make a huge difference to local children stepping back into the classroom across Merton, Wandsworth, and Southwark. A huge well done to the team for making the trip slightly outside our usual Merton and Kingston boundaries - the extra hands and longer session were greatly appreciated!

Tea for 2(00!)

Sunday 22nd March

Written by Georgina Robertson-Signor

Audrey and I supported the DLAG team to set up for their annual tea party. Tables and chairs were moved and arranged. 200 people were due to attend so we did a lot of juggling and squeezing but we got there! I hope they have a fantastic time!

Stock-ing up with food donations

Sunday 18th January

Written by Jade

Several have signed up to donate to a foodbank as the task that can be done at any time and anywhere over the weekend, so this report may get added to.

Rachael was the first to knock this off the to do list with a donation at Waitrose in Raynes Park. Then Emily dropped off some tins at Aldi, whilst Jade stopped by at Merton Park Baptist church collection point for Wimbledon Foodbank. Others added donations at various other locations.

One leaf at a time

Saturday 12th April 2025

Written by Jade

A quick pit stop to lend a helping hand to the Dons Local Action Group furniture hub. We tackled the onslaught of leaves and weeds, leaving the space looking spick and span. As a reward for our hard work, we were treated to a delicious flapjack snack; the perfect fuel for our next mission!

Preparing for a jam packed party

Sunday 16th March 2025

Written by Jade

Four GoodGymmers joined Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) with the setup for their 5th anniversary, transforming the venue with vibrant yellow and blue decorations. The challenge was to ensure there were enough chairs for the 200 attendees with spaces to move around. Once that was sorted, we embraced the opportunity for creative expression, arranging plates, napkins, and the classic afternoon tea pairing of clotted cream and jam.

A brilliant task for a Sunday afternoon and it was great to meet Keith.
