We had a whopping number of 13 Goodgymers cleaning out the KVA’s Surplus to Supper Hub so we split up into three groups.
Group 1 had John, Tom, Saber and Dave who washed the van and cleaned out the industrial fridge. Firstly, John, Tom and Dave sponged it down with warm soapy water and then Saber put his shooting skills to the test with the pressure washer. Then, they attempted to clean the fridge by taking all the crates out so the floor was clear and ready to be washed. However, they realised the hose was too short and couldn't reach inside! Oh no, better luck next time guys! This still made a great workout with all the washing and lifting! 💪
Next, we had group 2 with Emily, Amy W and Marcos cleaning the kitchen. Making sure the sink area and cooking equipment were all sanitised down, wiped and moped the floor until sparkling clean and mud-free!
Lastly, we had group 3 with the slightly hardest job of the night… Louise, Claire, Luke, Anna, Jonathan and Rachel were entrusted to reducing, sorting and moving crates of non-edible items (e.g beauty products, mother and baby small items, clothes and event decorations) to a small pantry cupboard. It was very much like playing a few rounds of Tetris!
Aside from that, we all finished the tasks that we set up to do. Great job everyone, see you all next time!

Tonight was one of our biggest turn-out mission this month where 13 Goodgymers helped KVA’s (Kingston Voluntary Action) Surplus Hub with their task list. Immediately, the team busied themselves by splitting into two groups. The first group moved all the crates from the van to inside the hub, unpacked them, sorted out donations and put them into the appropriate crates so that these can be packed away in the storeroom.
The second group swept, mopped, cleaned and tidied up the two kitchen areas to make it more accessible for KVA’s volunteer team and clean from any future pests.
Welcome Laura, on your first task!

We supported KVA’s Surplus to Supper Hub, an initiative that redistributes over 5 tonnes of surplus food each week. Our team helped manage incoming stock by unloading the van and moving crates of fresh and dry goods into the pantry for sorting and storage. We also cleaned the inside of the shipping-container fridge and checked dates on frozen and dry food items to keep everything safe and organised.
In addition, we sorted donated non-food items, separating gift items, home-use items, cosmetic products and more into trays, to ensure everything was properly categorised.
Overall, we contributed to the Hub’s mission to reduce food waste and support local food security by completing a wide range of practical, hands-on tasks.
Afterwards, we rounded off the evening with a wonderful Christmas social at The Albion, enjoying time together and celebrating our teamwork and the festive spirit.
A big welcome to Esme on her first outing with GoodGym Kingston. Hope to see you at another task soon!

It was a busy evening as we returned to the Malden Centre to help KVA's Surplus to Supper Hub.
There was a full van of deliveries to be unpacked and sorted, from fresh foods to clothes, mugs and even desk fans and a bird cage.
Tom, Marcos, Luke and Sabir quickly helped move crates out of the refrigeration unit so it could be cleaned, followed by some expert pressure washing from Dave and Jonathan. There was a huge amount of moving and sorting of the goods, handled swiftly by Claire, Rachel and Louise.
After cramming into the store cupboard for another typically unconventional KVA photo, we GoodGymers even got a cool water bottle to take home.
Another great task, full of variety and a fun atmosphere.

We've been to Kingston Voluntary Action's new project redistributing surplus food this summer and seen how it's been coming on.
Organiser Emma had a load of different tasks for us to do, from crushing boxes, sweeping, cleaning out their fridge as well as their van.
Anna, Amreet, Claire (expert power washer), Tom, Emma, Emily Luke, Levita, John (top leaf-blowing), Dave (skilful van driving), Rachel and first-timer Jonathan got involved in a bit of everything and we'd made a big difference by the end.
We didn't leave empty-handed, either. The great thing about a food hub is…food…and we got some water kefir and cacao bars for our trouble.
Nice to be back helping a very worthy cause.

A new challenge this Tuesday at The Malden Centre near Jubilee Square as we helped Emma to help set up a food hub for Kingston Voluntary Action.
It's going to be a fantastic venue and the kitchen rooms just needed a good clean, which Anna, Emily, Levita and Rachel got going with.
Meanwhile Dave, Marcos and Tom got sweeping, removing lots of leaves and litter outside their enormous refrigerated shipping container, which is for storing the food and was perfect for one of our weirdest team photos ever.
A nice fun task, even including free biscuits!
