Un-fencing the fun

Sunday 5th July

Written by Jade

After a brilliant Morden Fun Day, two of the GoodGym team helped with the pack away. We tackled the furniture first, folding and stacking an army of tables and chairs, before coordinating the takedown of the gazebos. We were also assigned fence duty, responsible for dismantling the boundaries, rolling up the mesh, and extracting every single ground pin.

The late-afternoon sun was beaming down hard, making for sweaty, heavy work at the end of an already long day. However, we powered through the heat powered by the promise of carrot cake. Well done team, the Fun Day is fine for another year!

Happy Helpers help make it a FUN DAY!

Sunday 5th July

Written by Lisa Nuttall

We arrived nice and early at 7am, "all up at a sparrows bottom burp" to help with setting up this huge local event.

This year organisers expected a footfall of around 3000 people to enjoy the Morden Fun Day, held on a spectacular sunny day.

The event provided LOTS of interesting things to look, see, taste and experience.

Family fun with Tombolas/Lucky dips, Fair rides and many local Charitable organisation stalls raising awareness of their causes, and, their ongoing fundraising efforts.

Many stalls offered delicious food and drinks, with Ice Cream Vans providing much needed ice creams and lollies.

All this at this fantastic local event alongside the superb Classic Car Show. This gave young, and those who remembered them from yesteryear a chance to look at some beautifully preserved Classic Cars, rarely seen on the roads these days, all in one place, shining and gleaming away in the glorious sunshine.

A fantastic event to attend and to be able to help out at, with truly marvelous organisation, such a big event with many many people helping to make this a seamless smooth day.

Well done everyone!

Finally white at the end of the tunnel

Monday 9th February

Written by Jade

With brushes at the ready, the team applied the final layer of white, finally banishing the blue for good. The throne room has been completely transformed from a dark dated space to a bright space and we’ve virtually crossed the finish line in the fourth visit!

Doing number two in the M&M loo

Monday 2nd February

Written by Jade

Four of the team returned to the Merton and Morden Guild to take care of a number two coat of paint this evening!

It was a well timed tag-team effort with two GoodGymers arriving for the earlier shift to get the masking tape in place and prep the space. For the second shift they were soon joined by two more members to tackle the main event: applying the second coat to the walls and starting the woodwork with a layer of gloss.

We will be back to add the finishing touches very soon.

Painting away the January b-loo-s

Wednesday 28th January

Written by Jade

Three GoodGymers headed to the Merton and Morden Guild to tackle a task that was anything but a bog-standard paint job. Making moody blue to a brilliant, fresh white.

We kicked things off with a heavy session of masking tape. Then came the real challenge: the texture. Those interestingly bumpy blue walls required some serious effort, but between some expert cutting-in and heavy-duty rollering, we made sure the blue we could reach was well and truly whitened. We will be back to work on another coat and deal with the gloss as soon as we can.
