On a Monday night that threatened to rain on us, but didn't really, we wandered around the Ouseburn Valley and the surrounding area to tidy up after the Ouseburn Festival. The amount of litter was much less than expected, but we still managed to fill several bags.
We inadvertently stumbled across the Ballast Hills Burial Ground, which was the first time some of us had seen it. Gravestones from the 18th century as paving slabs is not something you see every day.
Something we didn't stumble across despite trying to was the Wild Roots community garden. We were carrying out a scouting mission ahead of a visit there in a couple of weeks, but failed to find the entrance despite being very close. We'll have to ask questions about that one.

Six GoodGymers set out from Stepney Bank Stables tonight armed with litter pickers and the last of the leaflets we had to deliver to promote this weekend's Ouseburn Festival.
Welcome back to Daniel for good deed number two. Aspiring TaskForce member Nour was completed good deed number seven. Everyone else has been doing good deeds for a very long time now!
We set off towards Byker, picking up litter along Lime Street and Byker Bank before heading off to the area around St Lawrence Park. We delivered the Ouseburn Festival leaflets to some terraced houses and the blocks of flats at Ouseburn Wharf. It turned that that area around the blocks of flats was very badly littered, so we filled up four bin liners in that small area. Some of the labels on the bottles and cans were so faded that the litter had probably been there for years. Thankfully much of it is there no longer!
If you've never attended the Ouseburn Festival, it takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday. We'll be back next Monday to pick up any litter left behind.

On a warm, but occasionally mildly moist, Monday evening, five GoodGymers headed to Shieldfield and Sandyford armed with hundreds of Ouseburn Festival leaflets. This continued the task we started last week in Heaton. Shieldfield and Sandyford don't have quite as many terraced streets for easy leaflet delivery, but we delivered almost as many leaflets as last week, on what was another successful evening.

Four GoodGymers set out from Stepney Bank Stables armed with a large pile on leaflets to promote the Ouseburn Festival, which is on July 4th and 5th year. We targeted the terraced street of Heaton, always a good area to deliver lots of leaflets quickly.
750 leaflets were dispatched through letterboxes. We'll be back next week doing more of the same in Shieldfield.

The weather gods were kind to GoodGym Newcastle tonight as the wind and rain that came before and after subsided as we cleared the litter after the Ouseburn Festival.
There were five bags full tonight, with probably the most unusual item picked up being a half full baby bottle.

Part IV of the GoodGym Newcastle efforts to spread the word about the OuseburnFestival happening on 5&6 July!
Used a cat sitting favour as an excuse to venture around the High Heaton/Heaton area to spread the word wider!
76 leaflets short of a full box and a job pretty well done if I say so myself!
