Wednesday Heat on a Camden Rooftop!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

12 GoodGymers climbed into the rooftop breeze during Wednesday's heat wave!

We were back at the Greenwood Centre in Kentish town this week.

A regular haunt for us since January, we turned up to work the final touches ahead of the many gardens' public tours in early June!

And while we've been here in the cold and the wet and the dark of winter, we've never been here in a smoking heat wave!..

...until last night!

And so our wonderful group arrived in hats and sunscreen and with plenty of water to boot!

We welcomed Hana (on their first good deed – welcome!) as well as many wonderful regular faces: Caitlin, Ellen, Emilie, Gary, John, Jackie, Karen, Lydia, Siobhan, and Theo!

The group did so much that it was impossible for me to keep up, but I do know that we left our host Catherine feeling very pleased about the fantastic work everyone did!

And... with Karen's birthday around the corner... Ellen provided sweet celebrations with fabulous cake and strawberries! Thank you, Ellen! Happy Birthday, Karen!

Thank you, everyone! Here's to next time!

Camden, Country + Western, and One Very Productive Evening!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

9 GoodGymers nearly attend a Camden country and western gig!

The Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town is tucked away. The railway line rumbles behind. And the Kentish Town Forum is usually far enough away to be completely unnoticeable.

Usually...

But not on Wednesday evening! When the Forum's queue snaked far and long, so far that it stretched in front of (and beyond!) the Greenwood Centre!

Amidst a mass of stetsons and cowboy boots, this lovely group — of Gary, Giulia, Helen, Lydia, Pritika, Siobhan, Steve, and Thierry — arrived ready to make a lovely difference for this communal green space!

And they did a bucket load!

💚 One (pretty huge) compost bin was emptied, washed, and aired, leaving the fertile mulch ready for use!

💚 One bay tree was delicately trimmed and pruned ready for spring and summer to come!

💚 Countless weeds were cut and scraped, leaving healthy wildflowers free to thrive!

Thank you, everyone! See you next time!

Camden + Spring + One Lovely Evening!

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

13 GoodGymers jumped into nature yesterday evening!

This was our first session at our regular haunt, Cecil Sharp House, that felt like spring. It was bright and light, and the forecast thunder swerved us completely 🙂

Which meant that this wonderful group had fine conditions to make a wonderful difference!

And alongside our special and experienced GoodGym faces (Ariane, Gary, Jackie, John, Karen, Sarah, Siobhan, and Thierry) we welcomed first timer Ikram (welcome!) and second-timers Ellen, Giulia, and Krista (great to see you again!) ❤️

And together we:

💚 Transformed a twig-and-weed-strewn lawn into a perfect patch of green!

💚 Pruned overgrown shrubs and bushes!

💚 Planted fresh seeds for flowers yet to blossom!

💚 Gave every inch of paving a weed-cutting and broom-sweeping manicure!

💚 Turned a mountainous pile of leaves and clutter into the tidiest spot!

Thank you, everyone! Here's to next time!

💚💚💚 One Rooftop + Oodles of Helpful Jobs! 💚💚💚

Camden Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)

7 GoodGymers climb Camden rooftops to taste some spring nature!

The Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town is a mix of levels — some close to the ground and others closer to the sky — with special community gardens on each!

And this wonderful group — Gary, Jackie, Karen, Loz, Mariam (on their first good deed — welcome!), and Thierry — made a meaningful difference in multiple spaces yesterday!

Having been met by our brilliant host, Catherine, this super productive crew:

💚 Removed (and saved!) a large and green (and exceptionally leafy) plant in need of a new home!

💚 Moved a heavy grit bin (along with upmteen sacks of gravel) to much more suitable spot!

💚 Cut and bagged a lot (an awful lot!) of green waste ready for composting!

💚 Transported a heavy (30, 30, 50KGs...!?) planter to a sunny new home!

💚 Watered garlic and spring flowers and all sorts of thirsty shoots!

Thank you, everyone!

P.S. Thank you, Thierry, for the wonderful rooftop photos!
