Brent Report written by Tabitha Skinner
It was mild buy wet on Monday night so Goodgym Brent wore their raincoats and met in Willesden green . We warmed up then ran to Queens park where we met Shuwanna who was ready with stacks of the Voice , the Queens Park Community Council local newsletter .
We split into teams , Josh tackling one side of Portnall and Samina and Tabitha the other. We were soon joined by Giuliano who we were happy to see back at Goodgym after a short break .
It didn't take long to deliver the few hundred leaflets we had , and we returned the spares and jogged back to Willesden green
No group run next week but we will be celebrating in Never for Ever at Kentish town at 7 , hope to see you there !

On a late summer's evening Lee, Liz, Pete and Tabitha met for a warm-up outside the cafe. The team voted to enjoy the summer's evening and take the scenic route around the WORLD (AKA through the park).
When the team arrived at Clitterhouse Farm, they found Becka and Guliano already working hard with Anika. There were a lot of WEEDS which needed uprooting! Becka found a spider sitting on his WEB.
Soon, the light faded and the team ran back to base for a well earned beverage and a quick glance at the world weed web!

We met outside of Papagayo cafe for a short intro and warm-up. A big welcome to Tom, who joined for his first GG run and to Khush who joined the Brent group for the first time.
We set off in two groups for the run to the task. Upon arrival at the task, we split into two teams. Team A set to work first, sanding down the Wendy house. Meanwhile, Team B participated in a HITT session, including knee to elbow skips, sumo squats, ice skatters, star jumps and superman stretches.
After 15 minutes, we swapped jobs. Team B varnished the Wendy house, while Team A went back to school for a game of 'What's the time Mr Wolf?'
Finally, we ran back to base for drinks and chips!

Six Brent Goodgym-ers met on Monday night, for a training session led by Liz . It was freeeeeezing when we met so we jumped straight into our warm up then sped off for a four KM loop of the local area...making sure to put our strava's on as all the miles count towards the January challenge.
Once back we caught our breath and then had a HiiT session consisting of 40 seconds of exercise, followed by 20 seconds rest ..the activities loosely described as
- Cross knee to elbows
-Skaters
- Punching sumo squats
- Starjumps
- Standing Supermen
Two rounds of HIIT hit us hard, so we cooled down with some stretches, then warmed up again with a nice drink at Papagayo.
This week's task will be on Wednesday at TRAID where they are keen for volunteers to help pack away their sale stock and clean up. You can sign up here: https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/traid-shop-clothes-sort-and-clean-a8c33bb9-3413-4853-b887-149c131ccc8c

We met on a cold, dark January evening outside Papagayo cafe. Some GG spirit was bound to cheer everyone.
We started the evening with a short warm-up. Liz led the way, whilst Lee back-marked, ensuring nobody got lost in the darkness.
We were greeted by Gill, who explained the task for the evening, clearing the weeds from the footpath. Equipped with tools and head torches, we soon removed the weeds and left GG joy.
We returned to Papagayo for mulled wine, chips, cake and most importantly, good conversation!

Barnet Report written by Danny
Plenty of us came out today from across the holy trinity of NW London GoodGym boroughs, Barnet, Brent and Camden, with John along from Westminster on his first GG Community Mission (welcome John, thanks for coming! 👏) our usual task owners Anne and Betty, and even Herts Baseball Club was represented. Apparently they’re based in Hemel Hempstead, but train at nearby Basing Hill Park.
It was nice and bright and warm out, but luckily no comparison to yesterday’s heat wave so we were perfectly able to keep at it, without losing consciousness. After July’s GG visit where we got 20 bags of litter, plus the 36 which Betty collected ALONE during lockdown, the majority of the work that was left to us this time was of the more green-fingered variety. This included clearing weeds and grass from the paving, cutting back trees and bushes that had grown over the paths, and annihilating every buddleia in sight.
Alongside the good range of tools there every time, they’d managed to borrow some wheelbarrows from the builder’s yard next door today, which meant the vast amounts of plant waste both old and new could be efficiently gotten out to the road for the council to collect.
Thanks a lot for coming team and for anyone looking for something similar nearby soon, on Monday GG Brent will be back at Watling Gardens to help them with their err…. gardens. Sign-up here… for that 👍

Kieran and Alan were there to greet us and offer us tools and we swiftly set to work. Liz and Lee took on the hard task of pruning all the long grass that was reaching out to the road side. They did an incweedible job of it. Sabina, Karen, Danny, Samina and Kat and Amy all worked hard at removing every last weed from bed number one. Pete and I had a good go at bed number two, weed did our best! Pete soon got to grips with the large hoe which he found to be a versatile tool. Guiliano rocked up to show us how it was done and did more than just tickle the plants with his sickle. We'ed just discovered how a great a team we made when suddenly the heavens opened and we had to dash under the cover of the trees and hedges, hoping it was only a shower. Luckily for us it didn't last long and we quickly dried off and finished what weed been doing.
We left on a high , promising to be back soon !
