Tree-mendous elfies

Leicester Report written by Sarah

11 Goodgymmers came to share their Christmas Spirit by helping to wrap christmas presents for children and young people with disabilities at Menphys. There were over 600 presents generously donated and we also a Christmas tree to arrange, luckily Elf Kim stepped straight up to the challenge of untangling the Christmas lights, which has to be everyone's least favourite Xmas job!

All the elfies got stuck in, working together as always, spreading their Christmas cheer whilst eating mince pies and listening to Christmas tunes.

Great to see Dawn and Meena again for their 2nd group session, fantastic when new members come back for more!

Wrapping today was 10/10 at the speed of light and before we knew it huge piles of wrapped presents surrounded us and the tree was up with twinkling lights and a star on the top.

Weldone team fantastic efforts all round, there's going to be some very happy kids on Christmas morning.

One potato, two potato, 3 potato more...

Leicester Report written by Sarah

5 Goodgymmers helped B-inspired Food Bank in Braunstone, one of the regular charities we lend a hand to. Today's task was to sort the tins in the crates into date order and make an itinerary stock list. This is a big job now there are 2 crates, the one the Goodgymmers built is still standing!

This task helps the Food Bank to provide essential food to people in need within the Braunstone Community, which is a necessity. We split ourselves into 2 teams working on the left hand side first, sorting the tins into pea crates, potato crates ect. then listing how many tins, then also putting them back in date order.

Everyone put so much effort in we were rewarded with tea and biscuits. Shout out to Meena on her first GoodGym group session and she has already signed up to another next month, weldonefoals weldone to Jimmy running to and from the foodbank good warm up before parkrun and walking football tomorrow!

We will be back again next week for the right hand side the crates. Fantastic team work all, really shows how more hands make lighter work!

Loving your GoodGYm Beanie hats. Can you tell us where you got them from as we would love some in Luton. Thanks :-)

The Real Food Project has no Junk

Leicester Report written by David Snutch

So, tonight's run and task had been hastily arranged at short notice due to a cancellation. A chilly dampish night greeted us and it was nice to welcome a couple of new runners to our fold as we said hello to Meena and Conrad.

The task site at The Real Junk Food Project was less than half a mile away so we started off with a 2.5k circuit running in the opposite direction to start off with then doubling back. Nice to see lots of re grouping at the junctions as we let the tail catch up.

On arrival at site our host Anna was chairing a staff meeting so she popped out briefly to direct us to our litter picking tools , our bin bags and showed us the area for attention.

We had one of our best turnouts tonight so we made short work of the clearance. There was supposed to have been a van to load up with scrap for a tip run but in the interim The Real Junk Food Project had had a rethink and we weren't asked to do it in the end. Notwithstanding, when we had done, Anna was very appreciative and was keen to get a group photo to post on their website (it's has been posted even quicker than my run report!)

We retraced our steps to Upperton Rd to the start of the Great Central Way for tonight's fitness session. A pacing exercise, 8 minutes out and 8 minutes back, done properly one finishes in 16 minutes at exactly the same spot.

The range of paces did leave a couple of people a little isolated and whilst the GCW is well lit, this was not ideal so I shall learn from the experience and make sure that doesn't happen again. As ever, everyone worked really hard and give or take a few seconds managed to keep an even pace for the whole 16 minutes.

This will stand everyone in good stead for next weeks longer run which Lindsay will have the pleasure of leading.

Sorry I worried people by doubling back on my own. I knew I’d struggle going much further though. It was a good session, thanks!
